So whats the word on this Nightbreed "The Cabal Cut"? I hear the only source for the extra footage is from VHS. That would not make for a great BD. I guess if the theatrical version is the main version on the BD and "The Cabal Cut" version is an extra then that would be great.

You pretty much got it. It's sourced from VHS. They're doing their best to clean it up though I guess. I've said from the start I hope they do it like how "My Bloody Valentine" was done. Give a notice about the footage to the unknowing. Allow viewers to choose to watch with the new footage in it or just the theatrical cut.

I'm actually glad that there's someone on here who doesn't care about them. I mean, I think they look neat but if I buy a movie without one, I'm not going to be pissed off. If I'm in a store and they only have one copy of a movie I want and it doesn't have a slipcover, I'll probably just buy the movie anyways. Granted, I did buy a slipcover on here for Grindhouse, but it's not a big deal if your Blu-Ray doesn't have one. Most people don't care about them anyways. It's just packaging. I'd rather have a non eco friendly BD case than a slipcover (how to really help the environment.)

Btw, I've never seen Nightbreed, so what's the deal with the "Cabal cut"?

It's a real shame that Clive Barker didn't keep a workprint of the longer version for him self or maybe the studio would not let him.

Yeah, a branching version like MBV would be nice.

The theatrical cut is not Clive Barker's original vision for the film. The studio didn't get what he was doing, like any studio with any artist. Long story short, studio wanted to just churn out a quick horror flick to try and make a buck and not rather a horror fantasy type epic. I'm sure they saw the original cut and had no idea what it was about or how to market it. All in all, "The Cabal Cut" is about an hour of deleted footage they've reinstated back into the movie to make it closer to Clive's original vision. The name "Cabal" comes from the name of the book "Nightbreed" is based on.

Thanks for this, I did not know either, I hope just for completeness though the BD has both cuts.

Thanks again

No problem. And a lot has gone into fixing this footage to TRY and get it to the best possible quality they can. There's even a video on YouTube still I believe where they show Doug Bradley in a sound booth re-dubbing dialogue to the footage, the audio must have been terrible.

EDIT - Here it is, Doug Bradley in the studio -

I am still surprised that Scream has not opted for Without Warning. I know there has been much discussion about it here, but can someone help with any info as to why Cliff and Scream can't or won't get this one?

**NEW KEY ART REVEAL!**

Check out the newly-designed key art for our upcoming Blu-ray Collector's Edition of John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, nicely illustrated by artist James Rheem Davis.

As most of you already knpw, we just announced this release last week at Comic Con and is planned for November. No additional info on our new extras at this time.

[Show spoiler]
That artwork is gorgeous...

I feel it isnt won't, but can't, until a new deal with MGM, which I assume they are working on (again I assume) is finalized, as once thats signed, there will be this and many many more great genre titles announced. (as I seriously doubt TT will want this title)

In terms of pure sales I stand by my statement that Poltergeist would have outsold any of these other recently announced Scream Factory titles. Laugh all you want, but Poltergeist is/was a hugely successful franchise, and this movie part of that trilogy. People that like it would buy it, people that are familiar with the first 2 films but maybe not the 3rd may buy it, completists that are just looking to finish off the trilogy would have bought it. Nightbreed excluded, Darkman, Assault on Precinct 13, and the rest are let downs. You can't deny that given this was Comic Con that you didn't expect bigger/better titles to be announced. If nothing else, where was the horror? Again, Nightbreed excluded, we have a bunch of titles that really don't fit with the Scream Line. If you want to release these titles as Shout Factory releases I don't have any problem... but thus far even the worst example (Ninja III) fits more in line with Scream Factory's prior releases then these new additions will.

I wish Cliff would pick this title already and do a DVD Blu Ray combo. Im amazed it still hasnt been released... I wish someone would release it already, there is an HD master for it , its much requested title..HELLO ??!?!?
if I were a millionaire Id buy Without Warning and release it myself with the help of experienced DVD and Blu Ray studios.
(maybe Scorpionreleasing could do it ? )

Deals come in waves. They don't just pull a couple titles out every few weeks, they usually spend about $200,000+ for multiple titles all at once, then release them over the course of a year or two. Then they make a new deal after making the money back they spent.

We just have to wait for them to finalize another MGM deal, which I would imagine they are amidst right now or will be soon.

TripleHBK, I was hoping for a few bigger/marquee titles, and do agree about several titles not really belonging in the Scream line. They are working on other deals though. I was just giving you a hard time about Poltergeist III, but as I said there is a UK disc on the way in the fall if you're region-free.
