In every other thread on this board, people keep saying that Paramount chooses what stuff to bring to Blu-Ray, they provide the masters, etc., and Warner is just printing the discs and putting them in stores.

Similarly, this was not actually a suggestion that Shout! or Criterion has asked for any Paramount titles. Someone else was talking about those titles when I entered the thread and I was just using The Dead Zone as pure example.

As far as I know, Universal is the only studio (of the majors) that will simultaneously license a title out and release it themselves. Also, cmac has mentioned previously that they didn't get any other titles from Paramount.

Regarding Dead Zone and Criterion--I suppose it's possible, but it seems unlikely. See other titles that Criterion has from Paramount (Rosemary's Baby, Seconds, Harold and Maude, etc)--none have been included in the WB deal. My point is, if Criterion had it, it probably wouldn't have showed up as part of WB's deal.

This is a better bit of conjecture.

As with their own Nightbreed, it's entirely possible that Warner will not care about five or six cult titles that have been released by Paramount already, are not going to get new, upgraded releases from Paramount, and are not big sellers.
Nightbreed is a Morgan Creek film. Pretty sure Warner is only a distributor of the film on video, and I'm not sure they had anything to do with that being licensed out to Shout (though I could be wrong)

I just got in my copy of Ninja III that I ordered from Best Buy's online website (since I had a bunch of gift certificates to use there) and it arrived without a slip cover. Was it supposed to have one, or no?

No, it does not come with a slip, but mine arrived without the Theatrical Trailer that the back of the case says it has!

No slip. I think it's just the collector's editions that come with slipcovers.

Supposedly, the theatrical cut of Nightbreed and Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut, are different enough to be considered separate entities, rights-wise, according to insider members (Russell Cherrington and Mark Miller, if I recall correctly) on the Occupy Midian Facebook page. While Warner may currently have distribution rights to the theatrical cut, they are apparently uninvolved with The Cabal Cut.

If this turns out to be a successful endeavor, I hope we might be able to see similar restoration projects undertaken for other horror films that received substantial, film-altering edits such as William Peter Blatty's Exorcist 3: The Legion Cut (also Morgan Creek) or Michael Mann's supposedly 3.5 hour original cut of The Keep (Paramount).

Scream said they couldn't secure a proper trailer. They thought they could get one but they couldn't.

Does Miramax own the Producer's Cut of Halloween 666: The Origins of Michael Myers? Or would that be with... Well, The Producer??

I think Miramax owns all of the available footage and rights to said footage for Halloween 6.

I haven't seen the producer's cut so I can't really say how good or bad it is. Most opinions I've read seem to be split with some preferring the theatrical and some preferring the producer's. Halloween 6 has never been a favorite of mine from the Halloween franchise. However, I would be very interested if someone could get the original negatives of the film and put together a definitive version that combines the coherent story from the producer's cut with the action of the theatrical version.

I own the producer's cut but it's been years since I watched it. From what I recall, there definitely are things in it that better explain the whole Thorn plot line and different scenes as well as a different ending I believe. If a legitimate release of this cut were to come to fruition, I would definitely make that my preferred version when re-watching the film.

Personally, I think Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers is the worst of the series by a football field or two, so any chance the film might improve even marginally through an alternate version is welcome. (Yes, even worse than Resurrection, which is just garden-variety stupid as opposed to aggressively mean-spirited, and Zombie's remake & remake sequel, which I kinda like.)

I agree, I thought Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers was awful although I did prefer it to Resurrection. A definitive version that combines the best of both versions from the film negatives would entice me to give this overall forgettable movie another look.

My least favorite, by far, was H20. I rather liked the theatrical cut of Curse.

I know everybody always asks about Fright Night 2, but has Scream Factory actually tried to get the rights to release it on bluray? Can anyone actually clarify what the issue is with releasing it? Who owns it, how did it get an hd upgrade for it's Halloween broadcast from a few years ago, etc...

Thanks

The problem is.... no one knows who owns it!
That post was from last September and it's still something of a mystery. I'm not sure if Cliff ever did figure it out or not.

Sony has the rights to the original, Disney has the rights to the 2011 remake and Fox has the rights to the 2013 remake sequel. No help there.

Artisan (now Lionsgate) was the last known company to hold home video rights to the film, but their 2003 DVD went OOP shortly after it was released, so it's possible they no longer have those rights either.

Paramount has the TV rights to Fright Night Part 2 (and, as you mentioned, it has aired in HD), but it's not known if they have any additional rights or not.

I was wondering about that. My copies of Woochi and Quick came with slipcovers, but those would be Shout releases rather than Scream. It would be interesting to see a list of any Shout/Scream releases that have slipcovers besides the collector's editions.

Its really quite simple, if you're talking Scream Factory titles, which this is the thread for.

• All Collector's Editions

• Brand New 2013 and Beyond films
(Dead Souls, Chilling Visions, etc.)

No offence, but I don't know why its so difficult for some people to grasp.

They don't just pick them at random.
