Ive gone into family video before to browse and they are utter crap, only the most mainstream of mainstream crap is available for sale. If you want to find things like "disaster movie" or "epic movie" though you can find those by the dozen but nothing that anybody actually wants to watch.

Actually on the topic of "Silver Bullet", which Paramount still controls, I believe, could be wrong though. Have you guys ever been in talks or plan to go into talks with Paramount about their Stephen King adapted films? I'm still holding onto my Stephen King set that includes, "Silver Bullet", "Dead Zone", "Graveyard Shift" and "Pet Sematary."

It would be cool to see a blu-ray box set version of this set maybe. Obviously, without the original "Pet Sematary" film, but maybe the sequel?

And, hell while we're on the topic of Paramount films that are still M.I.A. on blu-ray and OOP on DVD.. "Fire In The Sky" any chance at all? I have the DVD, but I'm sure a lot of people would love to see this one along with some bonus features.

EDIT - Just looked at "Fire In The Sky" on Amazon.. buy it new for $69.99 !

Pretty skeptical that Paramount would give up Pet Semetary, and if they're gonna license out The Dead Zone, they'd probably give it to Criterion, which is racking up quite a library of Cronenberg. I love the film, though, so any way I can get it on Blu-Ray would be fine with me.

I already made it known I don't expect "Pet Sematary" to go anywhere else. But, I don't know if they give quite as much of a shit about the sequel, which in my opinion is not as good, but a lot more fun.

"The Dead Zone" seems like it could go either way. But, I was rather surprised when they announced they grabbed up "Rosemary's Baby" from Paramount, and Criterion has a good relationship with David so I guess you could be right on that one, but really we never can tell.

Warner Archives is reissuing FIRE IN THE SKY next week. It will be identical to the Paramount release except DVD-R now, of course. So chances of a Blu are probably nil.

Their relationship with Paramount seems pretty healthy too, in and of itself.

Not necessarily meaningful. Universal Blu-Rays of Criterion titles stay in print alongside the Criterions, and Nightbreed is in the WA collection. Possible that Shout! could make a Blu-Ray-only deal for it.

Yes, but Warner has full distribution rights to the Paramount library. And they would need to make a deal with Warner for any rights, blu-ray exclusive or otherwise.

For the most part, Warner made the deal to get more titles for their archive series.

Dead Zone, Graveyard Shift, Pet Sematary 1/2, and Silver Bullet are all with WB as part of the distribution deal they made with Paramount.

Paramount still owns the titles. Warner is just manufacturing and distributing the discs, and they're putting out what Paramount provides. Are you sure that Warner has any say if Paramount licenses one title to another distributor? Even if they do, is it really that likely they're going to care?

Considering they paid for 600+ titles with the intention to use them, uh, yeah.

And no way they'd license just one title anyway. They (the big studios) only typically do massive deals for multiple titles, valuing in the hundreds of thousands of dollars range. Like MGM and Shout's dealings, which resulted in a large amount of films, not just horror, and of the horror, some went to Timeless Media.

And Paramount may "still own them", but Warner is distribtuing them for the next few years, so Shout would need to make a deal for the distribution rights, which are with Warner...

Well, in the case of The Dead Zone, as I said, I'm thinking more Criterion, not Shout!, in which case the whole "big batch" thing is less true, and again, as with Universal's deal, it won't make much difference to Warner if Criterion allows the studio's releases to remain in print. They can even borrow directly from the Universal playbook and put out a studio Blu of The Dead Zone, with Criterion's to follow 6 months later.

As with their own Nightbreed, it's entirely possible that Warner will not care about five or six cult titles that have been released by Paramount already, are not going to get new, upgraded releases from Paramount, and are not big sellers. Neither Shout! nor Criterion are going after the big earners, and Warner cares about the overall deal, not each individual title. They may resist licensing out their own movies, but movies they just made a distribution deal for are not likely to be the same situation. If Fire in the Sky is going to Warner Archive, for example, they clearly don't see any value in the title beyond an extreme niche market.

They are concerned with the film they got, which includes several cult/horror titles like My Bloody Valentine, April Fool's Day, Fade to Black, etc. All of which they have reissued on DVD along with several others. If they didn't care they wouldn't have bought them.

When it comes to Warner, it doesn't matter, they are presumed to be a big no. They just simply don't license out titles. Not for lack of trying, very few labels crack them and its usually for just one or two films, and its typically for warner's benefit.

Warner is by far the biggest and most tightly locked library.

They re-issued the entirety of Paramount's in-print catalog. There is not a title that was not OOP that does not have a new Warner "edition" unless Paramount stock has not run out.

Warner should not be pressing My Bloody Valentine. The film, while it is a Paramount title, was given to Lionsgate for the Special Edition, unless they gained it back in the deal.

In any case, this is an all-or-nothing deal. Warner didn't sift through their titles. Aside from the few flagship franchises that Paramount kept, there is no "decision" involved in "re-issuing" Paramount's catalog. Paramount may even be the one saying which ones can go to Warner Archive. As far as I can tell, this is little more than Paramount handing over the physical aspect of distribution to Warner, with the added bonus for Warner that they can include Paramount titles in their bundles. Unless you have a link or someone else to corroborate the fact that Warner would get to call the shots on what happens to a film Paramount owns, I don't think we're gonna gain any headway here.

The other thing worth noting in the Warner temporary licensing of Paramount deal...

There's no way Warner paid for something they don't intend to release... so IF something is on the list that Warner paid for... expect it to show up over that 3 year period (slightly longer than 2 years left on the deal).

Even if it doesn't happen -- maybe nobody's trying to get it -- I would be very surprised if Warner or Paramount balked at Shout! or Criterion licensing a film like The Dead Zone if their version(s) were allowed to remain in print, which is a pretty common thing for these types of deals. You can say what you will, but I really don't think Warner looked at this on a title-by-title basis as opposed to the overall value and ways they could exploit the Paramount catalog as a whole. Otherwise, nothing would be on Warner Archive. Why would those titles be considered unimportant enough for pressed discs if they care about wringing every last dollar from every last movie? Note also that Paramount's existing licenses to Criterion did not collapse.

ALRIGHT, i can't wait for Darkman, Cat People, The TV thrills double feature, Saturn 3, Assault on Precinct 13, Nightbreed Cabal Cut, Night of the Comet and Eve of Destruction. I'll sell my old DVDs to Darkman, Cat People, Nightbreed, Saturn 3, Assault and Eve to upgrade.

For those saying Assault on Precinct 13 and Saturn 6 aren't Scream material, well Scream not only does horror but they do thrillers (Assault on Precinct 13 is a thriller), suspense and sci-fi (Saturn 3 and Eve of Destruction).

Scream rocks the boat!

Let's hope Tales from The Hood, The Car, Boy Who cried Werewolf, Link and some others are in store.

1. Lionsgate's Special Edition of My Bloody Valentine has been out of print for a long time, as was their dvd of April Fools Day, their release of Cujo, and The Monster Squad. Their Paramount rights have expired.

2. Warner did, actually, sift through titles. Their deal is not "all or nothing", they chose hundreds of specific titles to release in conjunction with Paramount. They only licensed about 600(ish) titles, but Paramount owns a lot more.

3. I'm fairly sure that Shout (Cliff) didn't just forget to ask for these movies, he probably hasn't even gotten an oportunity. They have a strict policy that they do not license out their films, no if's and's or but's about it. It doesn't matter if Cliff got specific on them, Warner would have given up titles already if it comes down to how bad they want it, and what they'd do to get it. Shout, Cliff in particular, is passionate about what they do. They jump hurdles all the time. Not to be rude, but It's just that Warner doesn't sublicense!!!

Yes, but I'm not talking about Warner, I'm talking about Paramount. I said it before, and I'll say it again: unless you can provide actual proof that Warner calls the shots on the Paramount titles they licensed, we're not going to make any progress. In every other thread on this board, people keep saying that Paramount chooses what stuff to bring to Blu-Ray, they provide the masters, etc., and Warner is just printing the discs and putting them in stores.

Similarly, this was not actually a suggestion that Shout! or Criterion has asked for any Paramount titles. Someone else was talking about those titles when I entered the thread and I was just using The Dead Zone as pure example.
