Anyone else find the fate of Vera Webster and the final conflict in Superman III to be scary? That scene terrified me when I was little and it's still a little unsettling today.

[Show spoiler]I mean, outside of the exorcism scene and a few random possessed Regan scenes, I found the rest pretty boring.

Don't get me wrong, I love atmosphere and gradual buildups, but the first third is just so...I don't know, dry. More like padding until the big scene.

Hell, even the Exorcism scene wasn't too bad. Sure, I grew up seeing it in bits and pieces from different countdown and documentary shows, but I was expecting more.
The Exorcist is great, and pretty effective given the right environment*, but IMO, it does not currently deserve the "Scariest Movie Ever" moniker that gets applied to it. It's not even the scariest movie in it's own series. Exorcist III is scarier, IMO.

* - To achieve the best results, atmospheric horror films should almost always be watched:
  1. Alone
  2. With the lights off
  3. In the wee hours of the morning
  4. Without any audible or visual distractions
  5. With the sound turned up (within reason, of course)

They probably do have them planned. It's probably just a matter of the i's not being dotted and the t's not being crossed.

I haven't seen Lake Mungo, but the other four can all pretty effective.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned [rec]. The night-vision scene at the end is pretty intense.

E.T used to scare me as a young kid and the girl at the end of the bed in "Don't Go To Sleep".

On one hand I'd like to see it with a group. That'd be the most fun way to see it, but from what I heard people scream out lines and do all kinds of other stuff, so I wouldn't be able to concentrated too much on the movie.
See it on the big screen, if only to take part in the Virgin Initiation. No there's two ways to watch it. On the big screen, as well as the people acting it out. You won't miss it.

Not really scared of many of those films but ROTLD scared the crap out of me. Especially the Tarman's scenes including the face melting scene at the beginning. Would be nice if Scream did a BD but as they said before they are not doing it because of the UK BD. Although if only they had the money to bring it to 3DBD.

There were some real scary stuff on tv back in the 80's & early 90's. Lizzie-Inside the closet episode of Tales from the Darkside scared me a lot. Thinking about that episode it would be cool to see a movie made from that.

Someone mentioned this in another thread but it was addressed: amazon.ca lists Assault on Precinct 13 with a release date of September 24. Anyone heard anything about this?

It's different for each troupe, but mine involved biting and a balloon being put between my legs. It's hilarious.

And what a better time to do it, too.
The 40th Anniversary is this year, of the London production not the film.

I definitely need to get to one of those Rocky Horror showings. Hopefully Columbus has one somewhere around Halloween.

You're bound to find it somewhere. There are like 5 theaters near me that do it. I live in Massachusetts, though.

Damn...looks like I'm gonna miss out this year. Does anyone know if they have Rocky Horror screenings in October (Yes, I know it depends on the area) or are they mostly confined to just the anniversary?

My troop does it the first friday of every month.

And to keep this on Scream Factory track, I again plead that they release Shock Treatment! ?

They are usually once a month or so all over. I saw it, for the first time, in April of 2010 on the big screen.

Scream Factory better put out Shock Treatment and/or Phantom of the Paradise soon.
