I get the feeling the reason they alluded to these 3 "popular 80s" titles is because so many were underwhelmed by the recent announcments. In fact did'nt they say something along the lines of they had hoped to announce more at comic-con but the deals wern't done in time?these could be them.

So I just watched the new Day of the Dead disc and it's looks good. I can't recall exactly what the Anchor Bay Blu-ray looked like, but I remember thinking it looked good (I previously had the 1998 DVD release and the quality was very murky), so I'd say this is just as good or better than the Anchor Bay release in terms of picture quality (and it's likely better as it is very clean, but not smoothed by DNR. However I don't have the disc with me to compare back to back). The image is clear and has little to no damage, with some great sharp close ups, and only one or two instances of heavier grain during scenes in the mine (but that is due to the source and not the transfer). There really are no glaring problems with the PQ. It's probably as clean, clear and stable as we'll ever see it. I really don't have anything negative to say about the transfer. For those who have the previous Blu-ray you'll be pleased, for those who never owned a Blu-ray version of Day of the Dead, you'll be even more pleased. I wasn't blown away, but like I said there is also nothing negative to say.
The disc takes up 40.9 GB of the 50 GB disc so it makes good use of the room. 1.78:1 framed transfer (which is a shame, the Anchor bay release is the original 1.85:1 framing). DTS-HD 2.0 Stereo (I assume made from the mono track, as the back of the case lists mono). The iffy 5.1 mix from the AB disc is not here. The main extra that I'm sure people are interested in is the feature length documentary "The World's End: The Legacy of Day of the Dead", it runs 82 minutes and 45 seconds, additionally there are credits with the actors saying some of their famous lines and after the credits role Tom Savini repeats an interesting nickname one of the guys had. There are interviews with plenty of the cast and crew intercut with behind the scenes clips (taken from the behind the scenes special effects segment that is on both this and the previous Blu-ray release), and general clips from the film. Interviewees include: George Romero, Tom Savini, Lori Cardille, Terry Alexander, Joseph Pilato, John Amplas, Howard Sherman, Pasquale Buba, Anthony Dileo, as well as a handful of other crew members. The doc covers the initial script and changes, budget, aspects of the story and how they wanted to progress, some of the casting process, working in the mines, the success of the Dead series, lots of special effects talk, talking about the zombie make up and the extras who played them (including an interviews with two of the featured zombies - the male and female zombie chained to the wall together), some of the reasons Howard was cast as Bub (and what it was like to play him), the editing process, the music, the disappointing marketing and release of the film along with the reception then and now. The extra involving the exploration of the mines runs 9 minutes and features some of the locations (which all look pretty well the same) and a man who worked there for over 32 years. The doc is great and informative, the transfer is very well done. I'm have not seen the film enough times to comment if the audio track has all the swearing back, but there is swearing...and lastly the doc from the previous disc "The Many Days of the Dead" - is not included however they cover pretty well all the same ground in the new doc and plenty more. For those who don't mind the 1.78:1 then this is definitely the disc to have over the anchor bay disc. For those that do mind, also keep in mind that the image here is certainly as good as we've seen the film and the feature length doc is a very nice touch - also the mono track is likely not the edited audio track that some here have mentioned - sorry I can't be more specific about that, I don't recall how much swearing is on the AB disc compared to this one. I'd post screenshots, but for some reason my computer will not play my blu-rays. |

The Sleepaway Camp sequels were abysmal IMO. The first one was great and groundbreaking (did anybody see that ending coming?) and badly needs a better transfer but I hope Shout doesn't waste time with II & III. Besides, those are in-name-only sequels, so it's not like you're missing anything if Shout just releases the first one.

I enjoy all of the 1st 3 Sleepaway Camps but the 2nd is my favourite,it a very different beast from the 1st movie but i love it.Pamela springsteen is great as well and to me is who i think of when i think of Angela. They are certainly not "in name only sequels" either.

These three titles would have been "No" titles, since the deals are pending final sign-off. I wouldn't necessarily rule any titles out as a possibility based solely on "no," unless Scream Factory has said "no" to a particular title since 8/19, when this hint was revealed.
That said, I don't think we'll be seeing more Universal titles in this upcoming announcement. It took Cliff almost a year to close the second deal with them. It probably wouldn't be realistic for him to close a third deal a few months later. |

"In-name-only" is exactly the way it sounds. It means there is literally no connection between the characters and events of a movie and its predecessor -- the only real link usually being subject matter, and of course, the name. As the Sleepaway Camp sequels follow Angela, they aren't in-name-only.
