If a release has a slipcover then i would like to have the slip for that release. It's not a dealbreaker but if it comes without when there should have been one its a slight annoyance. Does that make me OCD or Near-psychotic? i don't think so.

I can't understand how this is hard to understand. Slipcases are designed to promote a new product so they can stand out on the shelf and get people to buy the product at release price. That's why it's a first pressing affair. If one decides to wait out for a better price you are gambling on whether you get a slipcase or not. Don't want to get "annoyed"? Buy at full price and guarantee a slipcase. It's not the retailers fault. I like my releases with slipcases as well but I'm full aware that if I decide to get something for $5 I could miss out on one and I'm OK with that. It seems that people want it all these days. Cheap price, premium product and red carpet treatment. |

1) People collect different things, 2) OCD As somebody who has collected a huge variety of things since I was a kid, I can definitely understand the mindset of people focusing on slipcovers, though I do not share their passion. Personally, I could not care less about slipcovers. I opted out of the whole 'get the most extravagant version with the shiniest fluff' thing when I first started collecting DVDs (though I was definitely attracted to the idea). As I easily could see myself obsess over these things, I think I am much better off. |

I don't believe Cropsy said anything about being "annoyed'. And he never said it was the retailer's fault, that he didn't understand something, or anything else you replied with. And the Scream Factory Slipcovers are not limited to the first pressing anyway. It seems like you're having a one-sided argument with yourself... |

I don't obsess over things like packaging but I do like the idea of having different types of boxes/cases for my movies, to the point where I will try to seek out "alternate" packaging, but I'm not going to fuss or throw a fit if I can't get it. Steelbooks are my favorite, followed by slipboxes. I have no use for redundant slipcovers - those that feature the same art as on the inner sleeve. Those are a waste of cardboard. I like the Scream Factory slipcovers because, well, they're unique and look cool. In this case, if I ordered a SF BD online and it came without a slip, it would bother me. This is why I try to buy them on street date even if I pay a little more. I absolutely loved the Prince of Darkness art so I ordered a copy of the BD from Shout to get the poster. It's all part of the fun. The trick is to not let it become an obsession.

That's like saying discussing movie plot points should be relegated to the movie forum...yeah good luck with that.
Technically slipcovers are packaging which is part of the release. In SF's case, a pretty big selling point. ![]() |

I realize this slipcover discussion is getting a little heated or divisive but I just thought I'd ask, is there, not necessarily a guarantee, but a more sure way of getting a slipcover (not through eBay, overpriced for a used item not in the best condition)? Like maybe through Shout directly on their website? Or do you have to look at a Best Buy or order through Amazon in the hope of getting one like a lottery? I know people will say order like in the first few weeks of release but I can't do that at this point with Lifeforce, The Burning, Halloween II, or The Fog. Sorry to annoy people if I do, I'm sure this has been asked before. This thread is just so massive.

I understand the fan enthusiasm, but 20 pages in 1 day?? ![]() Actually I'll take the slipcover/packaging discussion one step further... I think it's time Scream/Shout looked into: digibook, metalpak, steelbook, etc... Just look what Zavvi, in the UK, has done in under a year, as far as exclusive steelbooks. Ditto Arrow with there horror themed steelbooks. Of course I don't know all the numbers involved, and can only view it as a fan, but I can't help but think of the potential here. |

I keep my slipcovers, but I would never pay additional money to purchase a slipcover for any release if the artwork is the same. |

IMDB lists Unapix Entertainment Productions as the overriding US distributor for all media, but they went out of business in 2003. The last US DVD was released by Millennium Entertainment in 2005 and still appears to be in print. Previous DVDs had been released by Fox (2003) and Artisan (2001). |
