So how the hell does a mindless Walker bring down a German Shepard? That's a big dog -- a big dog that's threatened. He's agitated, he's in fight mode. That animal would bring down a stumbling Walker no problem. I don't know how a lone Walker can bring down a German Shepard.

It annoyed me, even if it is nitpicking.
Those humans feel pain, zombie doesn't. Humans feel fear, a zombie doesn't. The dog keeps biting them but what is the worse they can do? It certainly can't do enough head damage to put it down. It could slow a zombie down sure, damage the limbs it might even damage enough of the throat it can't bite but in doing so it would be right in the core grasp of the zombie.
Even a trained attack or police dog wouldn't stand much hope unless it ran. The large size, instinct to fight, or worse the training to in those dogs would be what dooms them to die, while skittish and smaller dogs may stand a chance.

well put! though it bothered me a bit, i'm glad they included it. it helped show why there are no dogs on the walking dead.

To follow-up on a previous post, one of the most interesting aspects to this show is that it's taking place in the present (or at least 2010), when everyone is so plugged into the Internet, social media, I-phones (or at least the beginning of I-phones, etc.). In the past - and even up through the '90's - very few - if any - people had cell phones, the Internet, etc. So, at that time people weren't depending on technology as much as they are now.

Conversely, these days, I get the impression that if people couldn't get their I-phones to charge up and work (i.e., if the electricity went down for any length of time) these people would have collective nervous breakdowns...

So, because of this, I feel that people these days are far less equipped to deal with a disaster like what we see in FTWD than they were in years past. People have become so dependent on technology that it seems they can't do anything without it.

Sure, I'm the same way to some extent - however, I still don't have an I-phone....

You nailed it right on the head. People aren't self reliant anymore. They depend far to much on technology that if the slightest thing happens where they can't access their phones they are lost. Granted if worst came to worst some would adapt but others probably wouldn't be able to. While I myself don't have a smart phone, I am bored out of my mind when my internet goes down. Granted I have other things I can do but the convenience of the internet/wireless networks and being able to communicate and pull information makes life easy. Which isn't a good thing, none of us should be totally complacent as that can and will be ones own downfall.
I've been trying to ween myself and get back to my outdoor stuff that I do, ei hunting, fishing, and other survival things.

My chances for survival in an apocalyptic world would probably be slim to none. My thought is that the best chance for survival would be for those 65 and under and in good health. I'm older than that but no real health issues
but, not moving that fast anymore, my feet start hurting if I walk too far. I wear glasses so if damaged my eyesight would be greatly hindered.

So I figure I'd be ........Munch Food. Ha

Hey, if you can move you can live. And don't forget even in a world say where gas is scarce, you can still use a horse. And if you are in a group they would help to make sure you were safe. I mean at least my group is like that. Our SOP is we don't kill unless we have to. Try to be friendly with unknown units but always have our firearms ready.

Oh yeah, I would definitely try.
I'm older but active and if you've seen my albums in my community profile you can see why my login name at a Car forum is Need4Fun, but a 24/7 survival mode is going to be tough for anyone.

BTW, Thank You for your Service and I'm proud to Know You.

This week was my favorite episode so far. Still definitely no where close to the vibe(also realism IMO) and feel the WD gives off, but I'm warming up to Fear much more now and enjoying it very much.

No need to thank me but thank you for thanking me. I gladly did my job and would do it all over again if needed. And yeah 24/7 is going to suck. I mean we did 48 FTX's (Field Training Exercises) and those were horrible lol.

I'm liking it more also and now wishing they had more episodes for the opening season, it's already half over.

Travis and Madison have that belief that something terrible is happening, but the government and the military will get it under control, and then life will go back to normal.

When Hurricane Katrina happened, or a huge tsunami, or a huge earthquake that kills thousands of people, most people have that mentality of, "this is a tragedy, but we'll ride it out, things will get cleaned up, then life will go back to normal." Travis, Madison, mostly everyone else, they're in that mindset where they think this is some bump in the road before normalcy returns.

We know the world goes to hell and effectively ends, they don't. Travis is kind of being like Hershel right now, too, thinking these are just sick people -- unaware they're dead and there's no coming back from it. It'll be interesting to see how Travis develops going forward. Madison was ready to put down Susan, so she's developing a lot quicker.

From the sneak peek for episode four, with Madison seeing what dire straights the neighborhood is in, I think she's going to be ahead of the curve and start realizing this is deeper than a temporary dilemma that the family just needs to "ride out."
Again nitpicking.....but I like how easily the Hispanic family accepted what was happening. I would have at least liked to have seen the old woman do the sign of the cross and mutter something about El Diablo....

They really wasn't arguing per say. I mean the comment was kind of smart aleckly though. I really didn't explain myself in my reply so that is partially my fault as well lol.

I actually thought the show was going to their
[Show spoiler]desert home
, I guess they are going to the desert, but
[Show spoiler]in a military base

The helicopters and soldiers reminded me when I was in Panama still a little boy in 1989 and helicopters were passing by and also the US soldiers gave us a few cases of MREs because of my moms work. How I loved the MREs chocolates brownies/cookies or whatever had an addicting taste for me lol

Overall the episode was a meh for me, so far 3/3 mehs episodes for my taste

How odd, my Father was stationed in Panama. We lived at Albrook but he worked at Howard. It truly is a small world.

Hell, most dogs can sense emotions, and if you believe in it, the paranormal. They don't sit there and bark at someone that's angry. They cower and hide.

Worst was the idea that somehow, a dog with an open space managed to get caught by a walker. Like... Really?

Other than that, I really enjoyed the episode and can't wait for next week!
Haha, you've never met my dogs. Very stupid animals.

ugh.
1 more episode and if it doesn't get any better, I'm dropping it!
I find it hard to believe that the episodes get worse as the series goes on...
well, I would, if I didn't see the exact same happen with The Walking Dead and Under the Dome.

You should stick w it at least this season since its a short 6 episodes only, so you are halfway through the season lol . Especially if you are going to watch e4, then only 2 more after that. Is a good thing for them that there isn't anything good at night on sundays' since they have started... for now
