![]() Look at this way: the full-fat DV enhancement layers (if even used) often end up with the same sort of file size as an additional lossless audio stream or two, and given that some studios have gotten that sort of thing down to a fine art (Bad Boys has 4 Mb/s Atmos plus another SIX DTS-HD 5.1 tracks @ 13 Mb/s combined plus another 4.5 Mb/s of Dolby Digital audio tracks) then managing the DV layer ain't no thang. Competence is key. And the ironical thing with Fox and HDR10+ is that their HDR10 encodes are rigidly mastered with 1000/1100 nit mastering metadata, there's a reason why we rarely get complaints of "it looks too dark!" with their HDR discs in general... |

so what IS happening when Disney gets full control of 20th Century Fox and specifically it's home video department - will they continue their support of HDR10+ or switch over to Disney's allegiance to Dolby ? (not that it actually produced much on physical disc in the first place, but nonetheless)

As for what they release, I assume they'll do the same "only the biggest of the big catalog titles" strategy with Fox as they do themselves, sadly. It's not even a digital versus disc thing as they don't release them digitally either. Disney just don't give two craps about remastering their catalog unless it's a Disney classic or whatever. Even if they keep Fox around as a brand and give it some autonomy I'd guess that strategy will still apply. It's a bummer. |

Disney have gone from a likeable Studio to a hated greedy corporate. I wish them bad luck with their streaming service. It is now a company that is too big to fail but looks like they might one day sink on their own weight.

Maybe this thread should be a sticky, next to the "List of UHDs that contain Dolby Vision"

Apparently you haven't seen the right QLED in the right room. It is funny cause your OLED can't get brighter than 600 nits for more than a second. When your TV is riddled with IR/BI and slowly gets dimmer over time.. I will still be watching 1400 nit awesomeness in any light condition.

Vincent Teoh’s recent HDR10/HDR10+ analysis, pretty much concludes that there’s a negligible difference between the two.
If people took Ralph Potts’ review at face value when he said there wasn’t a noticeable difference between HDR10 and Dolby Vision, then people are really going to be disappointed to find out that the dynamic metadata in HDR10+, doesn’t do enough to warrant being an alternative to Dolby Vision. |
