I saw the 65" Sony 4k on Saturday, the Sony provided clips I thought were impressive. The picture is certainly better than 1080p Blu-ray IMO, but 2 million pixels vs 8 million, it didn't look 4 times better to me. Problem is, nothing to play on it that's true 4k yet. Chicken or the egg I guess. It's just the next big thing I believe to get us to spend our HT money on, think they've wrung all they can get out of 3D Blu-ray. After I got home, I realized that as colorful as the clips were, I don't recall seeing anything "black". Long the bane of LED/LCD vs plasma, I wonder, where the Sony 4k set is LED, if there is still an issue with blacks? And to take that a step further, anyone hear of Panasonic or someone else trying to do 4K plasma displays?

I was looking forward to the remastered Pineapple Express tomorrow, but it was just indefinitely delayed. Has anyone else heard anything more about this?

The majority of movies are still finished at 2K because of the CGI, so I don't think 4K is going to be as important as Blu-Ray is right now...

Majority of movies? I think not. There are literally thousands of films that were made before CGI (which debuted in TRON in 1982). I indeed was referring to new releases in my previous post, but there are still plenty of those along with catalog titles that have little to no CGI.

What are you talking about? Virtually all older films were shot in 35mm. The actual resolution of 35mm is slightly more than digital 4K. |

You are talking about the best possibile 35mm negative in perfect conditions: in the analog/film world Ks are not science, there are many things that can affect the picture quality. Take "Predator" for example, you can scan it at 16K but the amount of detail in the picture is still about 720p or so...

I agree with you but you can't change the fact that it was shot on low budget camera stock... I still have the 2008 edition too

35mm film stock and cameras are not all the same... In the '80s a lot of movies were shot cheap....
