True. You can stand almost totally still and look like you are kicking some major ass with shaky camera

Neeson's barely doing his own stunts, they're shaking the camera so that the stunt double isn't so obvious lol (and I guess they don't have the budget for outright CG face-replacement).

It's official. Black Panther has just been nominated for Best Picture...

Really?! Best Picture material? I can't say it is at all. I mean, look at the rest of the list...

It’s much better than a lot of other Best Picture nominees throughout history, including Avatar and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Exactly, so I’m not sure why everyone is having a fit. It’s a good movie, a lot of people like it, and it is better than some of the other nominees.

At some point I think the MCU deserves some sort of special award just to recognize the absurd accomplishment of their cinematic universe. I don't think BP or Infinity War were necessarily Best Picture material, but I am just continually amazed at the consistent quality of these films and the wonderful way that they all tie together.

Infinity War has nothing to do with it. Just turn on the news and check the political climate currently.

Oh I agree it's better than many movies nominated over the course of the academy awards. I think most of us can agree that "Best Picture" material "Black Panther" is not. There are just far better movies from last year that deserve that spot.

I'll agree with Brad, I can appreciate finally giving appreciation to the MCU. Having 20 films so far have impressively solid cohesion and continuity to one another is highly respectable. BP isn't a bad movie in my book so I am not completely outraged, as others might be, of it's overall recognition just not one that I would mention in my top movies from last year.

Default I have to see this again

I got it as a Christmas gift so I'm looking forward to watching it in UHD. In terms of the nomination, I don't expect it to win, but the fact that it was even nominated brings back memories of The Dark Knight getting snubbed in 2008. I will never forgive the Academy for not giving that film the nomination that it deserved and I don't give a rats ass with all the "its a comic book movie bull****"; it was one of the best films that year hands down.

Not aimed at you, but you touched on something here. I think this is lowkey where a LOT of the hate against this movie and its accolades comes from. I understand the frustration that comes from better movies like Logan and The Dark Knight getting snubbed for Best Picture, but getting some measure of respect for comic book movies was never going to just happen overnight. A lot of really great movies paved the way for Black Panther to even exist, let alone be as good as it is and get nominated for Best Picture at the damn Academy Awards. No, Black Panther isn't the best superhero movie ever, or even the best MCU movie, or even the best MCU movie THIS year. But it's still perfectly deserving of recognition and I have no issue with its nominations. I hope we see more comic book and tentpole movies getting back to the Best Picture race in upcoming years; I miss when the Oscars used to embrace big crowd-pleasers rather than simply cater to the indie crowd because Weinstein knew how to wine-and-dine the voters.

The Dark Knight and Black Panther do have one thing in common, for me anyways: they both blew me away the first time I saw them but they've never done much for me in subsequent viewings. It's weird, because typically I can happily rewatch most MCU and Nolan movies. Something about those two was like lightning--it's never struck twice.

I personally don’t think the Oscars should embrace blockbusters unless they are exceptional like Fury Road. I’m okay with the Black Panther nomination, but I think this stuff should stay with MTV awards and stuff like that. Or maybe they do that popular film category or something. Oscar season is the time for movies that aren’t big releases getting recognized.

It’s a real shame that First Reformed, First Man and Widows were snubbed but I’d put them in place of Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody. I’m fine with BP being there.

Nolan movies generally don't age well IMHO. Dark Knight was a religious experience for me and my friends back when it came out. Now I try not to watch it much because I notice some new issue with it each time. Begins holds up better and Rises was always crap, if anything it's slightly improved over time.

Yeah I've always loved Begins and I do still love Dark Knight, but the latter's love has increasingly become nostalgic more than anything else.
