I am getting sick and tired of my damn "RAN" or whatever the heck it is on my tv. I think "LANDON" is gone though, but I haven't listened to a cd to be sure (the "LANDON" is most notable on the Oppo cd screen). It's starting to take me out of the movies when I see the "RAN" flash across people's skin. Skinflicks are the worst. I don't know what to do. I cannot afford to get a new television (still paying for what I have) and the people around would have a conniption if they found out I bought a new television. I can swap televisions from the bedroom and what not. But It's only 50"/1080p and I refuse to go small or back to 1080p for my main viewing. I won't do it. ARRRRRGH!!!! Real first world problems.

I was watching a DVD last night on the OLED in the living room when I saw the "RAN" again and decided to document it. Below is the now infamous "RAN":

That, my friend, is burn-in. I cannot get rid of it. It says "RAN" if I'm seeing it correctly. It's godawful and is sometimes taking me out of the movie/show I am watching. I hate it. I had "LANDON" up there as well from a menu screen that was for 30 seconds or less perhaps. "LANDON" would show up on occasion while watching a movie or something, but it was more noticeable on the cd screen on the Oppo when playing a cd. I ran the "OLED Clear Panel Noise" program and it cleared up the "LANDON" I think. I don't see it anymore when watching a movie or TV, but I haven't listened to my Edie Brickell and New Bohemians cd at home lately to tell if it is completely gone as well. The "RAN" though won't go away.

I'm not entirely sure that I can though. It was a display model that I bought. As I've mentioned before I got hosed on this tv. It's my own fault though for a lot of reasons too long to list. I can certainly try though. Never hurts to ask.

It is an LG OLED, but I am not sure of the model offhand. I got it last year so I would assume it is either a 2017 or 2016 model. I cannot call the credit card company and do a chargeback, however. I am still paying on the TV. As I mentioned I got hosed on this pretty bad. To sum up (long story short):
I got the TV at a local store that is rather reputable and was going to get the 55" LG OLED they had that I was looking at. However, they had a 65" LG display model that was on sale for a $100 more than the TV I was going to buy. I ended up getting the TV with credit per se, but it turns out it was A Rent-A-Center type deal. I didn't have quite enough money in my checking account to cover the extra expense on the 65" and would've gone over so to speak. I have coverage on my checking account that would pay for it and I would pay back what I owe them plus $15. The problem is my mom was able to see my account online, was helping me with the TV to begin with (another long story) and I didn't want to upset her (she was sick and in bad health). I had 3 months to pay it off at the regular price and would've been fine as I was going to have enough to cover it. However, shortly after getting the TV my mother passed. That flared up my already somewhat debilitating depression I was suffering from and went through my money and then some (though looking back on it I don't know how). Depression is no fun. Let me tell you. So now, I make monthly payments on my TV. I, of all people, understand what a shit thing I did and some days it really makes me sick. Had I known my mother wasn't going to be here THAT much longer I would've risked upsetting her. Anyway, that's that. Sorry for the long story. Thanks for being so patient in reading it. |

Hang in there, friend. As someone who has previously suffered from debilitating depression (it never really goes away, so I say "suffered" pretty liberally), currently deals with high anxiety, and has a rocky/rough upbringing I can say with surety, buying things can be a dangerous path that gets you in way over your head that only exacerbates the problem further (speaking from experience).
Keep workin' to learn from your mistakes and do your best not to make the same mistakes (easier said than done). Most importantly... keep on keepin' on. Anyway, back to topic, HDR/4K/UHD are amazing! ![]() |

All movies I've watched with HDR Have been dark and unnatural. I dislike it. I find bluray to be more vibrant clear, and 4K has been disappointing. This is coming from a guy with a $500 4k player and a 4K HDR Dolby Vision television.
