Hey everyone. Once I updated my PS3 to the 2.8 firmware the fan kicks in to it's highest speed 18 minutes into a Blu-ray movie and completely drowns everything out. The system thinks its overheating but it isnt. I even put my strong house fan right up to the intake vents, and sure enough, 18 minutes in it still came on. Can anyone help me? I'm a huge movie buff and I cant watch anything till I get this fixed

Looks like trolling Brand new member - first post, obviously hasn't looked through the search function or the stickied "tips, tricks, and fixes" thread to try and determine the cause, and "rounded up" the firmware number ---- why you would do that is anyone's guess. Just looks like a scare post to make the PS3 look like it bricks when updating firmware, and could potentially be flame bait. |

Although this is really normal to begin with. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with your PS3. ![]() |

I have dusted it off and have made sure it clean. I even tried to elevate it a couple inches off the glass in case it was heating it up but no luck. Im literally resorting to everything I can think of right now

I know one day a few weeks ago I had my windows open at home. It got up to 80 degrees (F) in the room and my PS3 fan kicked into the loudest mode. That is the only time it has ever done it. Now that my AC is on, no more fan noise. |

Try this: Turn your PS3 on but don't start any media. Simply leave it on in the XMB for a while (30 minutes or so). Your fan should not kick into high speeds by doing that (it may up the speed to the second from lowest one...still pretty quiet). If it does, something is wrong, be it your room is too hot, the system isn't properly ventilating, hardware issues, etc.
