Negative, though they make setup easier the actual purpose they serve is to ward off corrosion.

As previously mentioned, you will not derive necessarily improved audio with the use of banana plugs, but they do provide a lot of convenience, especially at the receiver end, and, if they are visible, give your setup a clean, classy look. Another advantage is that, over time, the screw-down binding post knobs sometimes work their way loose with regular stripped wire leads. The banana plugs provide a sure, compressed fit which stays secure over time.

I did all my banana plugs myself on my 7.1-channel setup (closed screw type), so here's a few words of advice for you, based on my experience with them.

If you are setting up a 5-channel system (checked your gallery), keep in mind that you'll need 10 pairs, or 20 plugs total. For a 7-channel setup, you'll need 14 pairs, or 28 plugs total. That's one pair of plugs at each end of each speaker wire (2 at the speaker, and 2 at the receiver - 4 per wire).

Set aside an 1.5 to 2 hours to set it all up. You'll be moving your receiver out of its resting place to work on the wires, and you'll be doing a lot of checking and re-checking which speaker wire you are setting up and its correct polarity - be certain you are not mixing up speaker polarity.

Label your speaker wires at the receiver before jumbling them all up.

If you're getting the banana plugs with the 2 tiny set-screws on each plug, then you'll need a tiny flat-blade screwdriver to set them. You'll likely jab your index finger setting up the first few plugs, until you get the hang of it. Yes, it can be painful and even draw blood.

Good luck to you! It's fun to do and a relatively inexpensive way to add something nice your setup.

Oh yeah...

The little screwdriver was like a chisel into my left index finger! After you do that a few times, you become VERY good at installing banana plugs!

A finely tuned HT is a force to be reckoned with. Sometimes we must give it all- including a little blood.

I got 8 pairs from monster for 1.09 a pair, here in NY. Don't hurt sound quality, they are a gift from the gods! I love the two part ones, that you unscrew and slide the audio cable thru, and then cap off. There're GREAT.
