Default Do you think the upcoming slim PS3 will be able to bitsream lossless audio?

I know the slim PS3 is still a rumor, but I think we all know it will eventually be a reality. Do you think Sony will have listened to everyones gripes and update the hardware so we can finally at least have the option to bistream losless audio?

No need. It's just a link to a thread at another forum where people with no inside knowledge ponder the issue. The same thing that's gonna happen here.

im going off topic so shoot me, but the one thing i wish for if they are going for hardware improvements is ir over hdmi. this way it can still use bluetooth for its gaming controllers yet use the ir from other compatible tv's or receivers to use universal remotes. i know that logitech just released their ps3 adapter, but if playstation wants a media center console then i think this would be a great improvement

I would rather it have an IR receiver so my Harmony One will work with it without having to buy an adapter.

There's not, except some people claim they can hear a difference between lossless audio decoded flawlessly by their PS3 verses the same lossless audio decoded flawlessly by their receiver.

That's what I thought. But if there is enough factual information out there stating what you have just said than what's the big deal? If it sounds the same it really does not matter.
Maybe this is just everyones "OCD" taking over because they want their receiver to say "DTS" or "TrueHD" rather than "MULTI IN" or whatever else.... that would be nice though..

I think it's more a psychological issue of "I paid XXXX dollars for this receiver that can decode all these codecs and there's no way to make use of that function". Yes, it conveniently ignores the fact that the PS3 handles all of that flawlessly anyway, but some people just like to feel like their purchase was justified, and will go to retarded and silly lengths to do so.

The loss less codecs when compressed contain a protective layer that prevents errors in the bitstream on it's way to decoding. These errors are mostly timing issues due to HDMI jitter. So where as the bitstream is protected all the way from the source to your receiver, the PS3 in this instance sends out a fully decoded, unprotected signal that is more prone to HDMI related errors. As of this moment Denon has the only player on the market designed to completely eliminate jitter issues.

Can you hear a difference created by these errors? Some say they can, me personally I cannot, I just like to see "TrueHD" on my panel.
