Default Tecmo Koei: "Please Cut the Price"

Tecmo is also asking for a price drop. Difference is they did it with more class and tact than Activision with their threat and ultimatum

http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=218823

Quote:
CEO of the newly-formed publisher Tecmo Koei, Kenji Matsubara, has said he "would welcome a price cut for PS3", and has made his request known to Sony in past meetings.

"Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price', but I don't have a clear view on Sony's situation," Matsubara told CVG during an interview.

"Yes, from a publisher's point of view we would welcome a price cut for PS3, and we are waiting, definitely," he added.

"It's definitely a way of boosting the PS3 market, but it's Sony's strategy and I don't know their cost structure. Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut."

Same, I just happily put another $400 down for a second PS3 (well not happily as my first one is acting weird....). I honestly believe that price point is perfect for the system. Obviously a price cut will attract more people, but from a purely technological standpoint I think we're getting more then enough for our money.

Yup but like I always say consumers don't know what they are getting out of a PS3 besides a gaming machine with a $400 price tag on it and the fact that Sony hardly ever advertises makes matters worse for that regard. And then there is the Sony haters telling consumers lies about the PS3.

Define soon.

Koei-Tecmo were certainly much more polite about it, which is nice.

Bobby should have kept the threats and ultimatums to the board room.

This price drop situation is getting serious. We'll see what Sony does.

This is the same thing that people were screaming at Bluray during the height of the format wars.

The Wii and a neutered version of the year older 360 are down to ridiculous prices to drive sales, so people and developers want Sony to follow suit prematurely.

The comparable 360 is only a hundred dollars cheaper then the PS3...

With a smaller harddrive.

Without a wifi adapter....
Without free internet access to actually play games...

and...

Without a a bluray optical drive....

The PS3 is priced pretty reasonable to me...

I completely agree. It is priced reasonably compared to what you get elsewhere, but the average consumer won't see it that way. They see $400 and then move on. In all reality though, the system isn't selling as poorly as the press makes it out to be. Sure, the games sell a lot better overall on the 360, but the PS3 still has moved a respectable amount of consoles. Regardless of what you get for your money, Sony does need to drop the price if they have any hope of actually surpassing Microsoft though. The games are there and more are coming, but that will help give the PS3 the boost it needs. When the price drop happens is really the only question.

I agree with them. When PS1 launched it was $299 and when PS2 launched it was $299. But $599 is no go. That really pissed many developers off like Konami. They cancelled many PS3 titles such as Gradius in January '07.

Average consumers don't pay $599, $499 or $399 learn from Sega Saturn who messed up their launch with a price point at $399 VS $299 for PS1.

I rather see a smaller model than a big one which cost too much money to manufacture.
