More like piece together... Looking for gear that's built well, and not really looking for extra frills.
Blu-ray DVD player - $? A/V receiver - $500? (pioneer?) Speakers - $1000-$1500? I'm an audio professional (sound editor and mixer), but I'm leaning more towards home style speakers for this setup (genelecs are out of my price range). I'd prefer all speakers to match. This is strictly for watching movies and less often listening to music. I don't play video games and don't plan on starting and I already have a large LCD HDTV. I've done a bit of research, but looking for advice from you folks that seem to know the ins and outs of this industry. Thanks alot! |

Also, this is going to be in a 1000 sq/ft loft. I have about 300 sq/ft sectioned off for this system (with some acoustic treatment).

It may be out of your price range but if you are an audio professional you are going to want some pretty nice equipment. This is a NAD receiver (4 HDMI, new audio decoders, ect) and a Klipsch reference speaker package.

Hmmm. You could go Onkyo TX-SR607 for a reciever (Around $450 or so)
If you don't mind a silver finish to your speakers you can get some great deals on Definitve Technologies Mythos series on Amazon (search Mythos Silver). I'd recommend a Mythos 3 Center (around $250), a pair of Gems for surrounds ($500), and maybe 2 Mythos 1's for your front L&R ($389 each) Total: $1589 You could add a Sub to the mix too with their prosub 1000 for $499. Total then is $2088 Maybe a little high for your budget, but if you shop around you may find better prices. |

This would probably be a better speaker package for a smaller room.

If it were me (and you're not me, so this may not help)
I would buy The Totem Mites here for surrounds, https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ighlight=totem These rainmakers for fronts, http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....tem-Rainmaker- add the Rainmaker center (should be had for $500) and then add a sub later. For an AVR, there are a lot of options. How much are you willing to spend on a Blu-ray player? There are many nice ones available now for $200-$250 |

I would go with Paradigm speakers either Pioneer or Denon receiver and the new slim PS3 for your blu-ray, if there is still enough left over for a sub in your range probably an ED sub. Now if you want to go more of the professional route i would go with Mackie HR624 for your fronts or all 5 speakers, being a sound guy you might be able to find a good deal on these or have some connections. The Mackie HR824 would be my dream speakers for my fronts, they are extremely flat and have amazing bass response. Also they are powered and this would eliminate the need for a amp.

Hands down Blu-ray player to get is the Oppo.
I know it's prolly out of budget, but c'mon, just look at that thing. It plays EVERYTHING. It does everything. I think there's even an option where it'll cook you breakfast in the morning. ![]() |
