Post Star Wars BDs - release date predictions?

I'm sure there are people who love it and others that hate it, but the Star Wars films when do you think (if) they bring the movies on Blu-Ray. What do you think is the Estimated Time of Arrival.

I for one wouldnt doubt if it took a good while - Lucas took 4ever to put them on DVD. Other than that, I dont have a clue.

It all depends on how quickly Blu Ray takes off. I think it might arrive faster than it did on DVD, but I think we'll be a good while away yet. I can wait to be honest, the DVD's look nice upscaled on my PS3. It's not as big an issue as it was with VHS to DVD - but I do still look forward to them coming.

I'm more excited these days about the release of Disney animation on Blu Ray.

Yeah well you forgot Sir Isaac Newton. He says the world is ending in 2060, according to the Bible.

Lucas has little interest in giving us what we want, until he gets tired of the endless petitions demanding it. He totally insulted the Star Wars fans who wanted the original versions of Eps 4, 5, and 6, when he released them on DVDs that were NOT anamorphic. What a di*k.

Do you have to be abusive about George Lucas? They are his movies and he can do what he wants with them.

I'm a longtime Star Wars fan of 30 years and I don't feel insulted by anything he's done, and I actually think the remastered DVD editions are, in most cases better than the original theatrical versions.

He doesn't hold a blaster pistol to your head and force you to buy every iteration of the movie he's ever released, and to be fair, there are plenty of other movies which have had far more re-releases on DVD than Star Wars has had.

I think the Lucas bashing that goes off on Internet forums is distasteful and plain nasty. George Lucas has actually contributed a huge amount to modern day film-making besides Star Wars. A lot of it has happened because of the success of Star Wars, but he should be applauded for the technological advancements that have been made through the years. Many films which we've enjoyed over the past 30 years would never have been possible without George Lucas and Star Wars. And for better or worse, he's responsible for transforming the landscape of movie-making and movie-marketing over the last 30 years.

I don't see any reasons for calling him a d*ck.

Actually, Newton only said that the Bible didn't support a date for the end of the world *any sooner* than 2060, but was quite clear that he believed it would be later than that (according to the Bible).

Lucas ONLY released the films on DVD because HD had launched but hadn't reached general public awareness. If he'd waited any longer some who bought them might have held out for HD versions instead. I am - and will only buy them if they are a quality product.
Even after all of the wait they were crappy transfers even for DVD, as has already been pointed out.

When they do appear on Blu-ray (if they ever do) they will again be lousy transfers and will probably NOT have lossless audio, but the same audio tracks already on the DVDs. Instead, they will PROBABLY be on one-time or limited-viewing download - with lousy transfers and obviously one one choice for audio which will probably be lousy.

Lucas released a new VHS set every couple of years once they hit the street because people would buy them for the "new" extras and because of the degraded quality of their now 10-times-watched/stretched tapes. He did release two sets on LaserDisc - presumably because they were just optically encoded prints of the VHS versions.

Most buck for the least work and marketed for the greatest profit. That's Lucas. It's pretty sick. MOST other producers of products with high demand understand and abide by the fact that there is a compromise between their desire to get the best return for their product and the customers expectation of quality. That's completely lost on Lucas.

Lucas won't release anything for a LONG while on a new format. I'm guessing we won't see Indiana Jones until the 4th movie is out on DVD. That will be the first Lucus film. If that sells well, then maybe 6 months later he will release more.

Lucas is very profit concious so you can bet he'll wait till its most profitable. So your looking at a few years from now.

Funny to know that Lucas thought that Close Encounters of the Third Kind was going to outsell his Star Wars massively. He goes to see Spielberg for some tips and then come to an agreement, seeing as they are old friends, Speilberg says I will give you 2% of anything that is made from Close Encounters and you give me 2% from anything made by Star Wars.

No wonder Spielberg always looks happy.

Default Star Wars and Indy

Now let's not turn this into a rant against George Lucas, I've made my feelings clear about that in another thread. The following was posted on Digital Bits today. It's no major surprise, but it's encouraging that they are thinking about HD.

Finally today, there's interesting Indy and Star Wars news: At the Star Wars Celebration event in Europe this past weekend, George Lucas' longtime producer, Rick McCallum, spilled the beans on some interesting release plans at Lucasfilm. It seems that the first of several volumes of Young Indiana Jones episodes will finally be released on DVD on 10/13. According to this link at the official Star Wars blog, the first batch of discs will street in October, followed by another in January and one more right after the theatrical release of Indy IV. There's an audio recording at that link of some of McCallum's presentation. Several Bits readers who were on hand at the event have e-mailed us to say that Rick also told the gathering that the Star Wars films will NOT be released in high-definition until there is a clear winner in the Blu-ray Disc/HD-DVD format war (implying that they'll eventually be released on only one of the two formats). I expect we'll hear more about this next week at Comic-Con in San Diego. By the way, the audio recording also offers some new information on the planned Star Wars live action series, as well as the future prospects for a theatrical release of the Star Wars films in 3-D. It's worth checking out.

I think most people on here speculated that Lucas would only release on one format. Hopefully he won't wait too long to release after the format war is officially over.

I look forward to the Star Wars films in Blu.

George Lucas loves to suck the money out of his fans. I like Star Wars, but I'm not going back to the theater to was Star Wars films in 3-D. Lucas needs to get off his high horse and let other directors and writers make some Star Wars movies. (of course this will never happen)

Well he better get ready to start making that Ulitimate Blu-ray edition with all the changes he could ever want to make, plus give us the option to watch all the origianl theatrical releases as an added bonus. Just make sure the original trilogy is shown in anamorphic widescreen and is the original theatrical versions.

Well we should see these soon as Fox only supports Blu-ray and when Universal goes neutral all will be said and done. So it is written, so it shall be done....

Ha ha ha. That was hilarious. Lucas will probably release the original theatrical versions sometime after 2060 A.D. and in hd-dvd format.

Make that two - do people not understand plain English. Why do you always have to drag Star Wars or Indy threads down to small minded insults against George Lucas?
