Angry Pioneer/BluRay sound problems.

I am having some horrible new issues with my home theater.

To start with what I have and how it's hooked up. I have a Samsung 50" plasma TV.

Hooked up to that I have a Pioneer 1018 AV reciever. I have a Comcast HD digi cable box hooked up via HDMI. I also have a Wii, PS2 both hooked up via component cable. Today I purchased a Pioneer BDP-120 BluRay player and it's hooked up via HDMI to the "BD" port on the back of the 1018. (I used to have a Phillips HD DVR/DVD hooked up to this very same space.)

The problem I am having is with the BluRay player only. I cannot get it to play any dialogue in a movie at all. My surround sound (5.1) works GREAT with everything else and it worked great with the DVD player hooked up to the very same place with the same cable. However with my BluRay it only plays background music/noise and the people are talking but nothing is coming out of my speakers. On top of that the noise that is coming out is only coming from my to floor speakers, nothing on the center, surrounds or SW.

I am fairly new at all of this and very very frustrated. My wife and I had planned to set down and watch a BluRay tonight instead I messed with it for a couple of hours and no luck...so here I am.

Hopefully someone can help?

Thanks!

Not knowing how you have your receiver and BR player setup I guess we should start with the basics.
Have you setup your Blu-ray player to use "HDMI Out"? Also, make sure that your receiver is set to HDMI for the BD input.
Simple I know but alot of times it's the obvious things we don't check..

Make sure the Receiver HDMI Audio is set to AMP. (pg.70 user manual)

in the bluray player make sure youre set to Bitstream and secondary audio is Off. (Dynamic Range Control set to Normal)

Thaks for the replys...

I don't have my user manual for my AV I bought it as a open box and didn't get a manual.

So I'm not sure how, where to get to this option to make sure HDMI audio is set to AMP. How do I get there?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like you might have the amp set for "Stereo" output. What does it say on the front of the amp?

Thanks for the manual. My reciever was already set to AMP, but it's nice to know how to do some of those things now!

I set my BluRay up as mentioned above fror bitstream etc.

I am now getting more sound through my surround speakers (SW and surrounds), but I am still not getting any dialogue at all from my player.

Do I have a faulty player?
