So lots of peeps are having probs with the audio in T2 ROTF Imax version. I am wondering. How many people are bitstreaming, how many people are sending PCM, how many fall into the none of the above?
I have a PS3 and am sending PCM to my Onkyo 605 and am having no problems! Last edited by brett_day; 10-21-2009 at 04:08 PM. |

I also agree that for some scenes the dialogue from the real people is a little low, but it's nothing that really makes or breaks the audio for me. The sound of the first transformation of the decepticon in Shanghai went down my spine. Really cool demo disc.

The only issue I had was the dialogue being somewhat low. But it wasn't low to the point of not making out what the people were saying. Plus it's a Paramount title and seems to be dialnormed (which isn't a problem, just one of the reasons people are saying the track is lower).

I bitstream, and I have to admit that a lot of thing that I thought should have been loud seemed weak or soft. For the most part, the audio was fantastic, the surround was awesome, but some crashes came off more like splashes... pretty weak. If the non-IMAX versions don't have this issue, I may return the one I have and get that instead, unless word comes out about a replacement program. I enjoyed the few IMAX scenes there were, but the audio issue were noticeable to me and even to my wife, who is not as picky or discerning as I am. I was kind of disappointed. Since the movie was just okay, I was really needing perfection from the audio to keep me into the experience.

Now I am starting to wonder if there's not some defective copies out there. At no point did I think the sound effects were weak. The bass was powerful and packed tons of punch. Again, the only thing I noticed was that it's dialnormed and the dialogue was slightly low.
I am curious, to the people saying it sounds weak, have you ever used DRC? Does it sound kind of close to what that sounds like? |

Ok folks. I've finally caught up to all the comments and I recall only a handful of people really stating what is going on. First of all, I don't believe that the current issue is a dialnorm issue. My experience has been that the audio is all over the place in consistency but the biggest example is the opening sequence in China as others have stated. I recall mid to high frequencies having their appropriate impact but the LFE is a bit "shy." This reminds me of the earlier generation UniPhier players that had that darn LFE bug when outputing PCM over HDMI (LFE was down by -10dB). Unfortunately, my system does not have that bug and I am using an Oppo BDP83 multichannel analog out to a Rotel receiver with the Oppo doing the decoding. Oddly enough, this reduction in LFE occured during a non-IMAX scene! The LFE returned but then was absent in other areas where you expect it to be.
In my opinion, the issue is with how the IMAX soundtrack was mixed and mastered. That LFE is too low in certain places and that is why some action sequences lose their impact. It is not a volume issue as I am very sensitive to where frequencies should be and having the correct treble mid-bass range tied to LFE-starved frequencies jumped out at me like the aformentioned LFE bug. Does anyone out there feel the same way? I have the capability of switching to the digital input (optical) to the Rotel on the fly so I'll compare the lossless DTS-HD MA track against the "core." If the "core" sounds normal, then there is something wrong with the DTS-HD MA extensions. |

So I guess that somehow from this questionable poll that we can deduce what people are having problems with their TF2 audio?
![]() Don't understand the point of the poll other than to see how many people are using bitstream or PCM? While it is relevant, the poll is pointless because there is no way of knowing whether or not votee is having trouble unless they reply in specifics. Seems like a hard way to figure this out. Oh well... I voted nonetheless. |

Panasonic bdp35 bitstreaming to an Integra dtr-7.8.
I actually bought the IMAX version at walmart the other day and got the other version from netflix today. Having never seen the movie before I watched the Netflix version first tonight. Had my 7.8 at 67 for this version and it sounded great. Then just to do some comparison I put in the IMAX version. It did seem a bit quieter, but I turned up the volume to 70 and it seemed to be very similar to the other. I haven't done any in depth comparisons at this point, just the forest scene and the scene following when they are lifted by helicoptor. While the two versions seemed similar once the volume was adjusted, I did still think there was some edge to the "regular" version. The effects seemed to be a little louder. |

When the volume is turned up on the Imax version, it sounds "pretty close" to the standard release but the standard release appears to have more dynamic range and perhaps bandwidth. The Imax may perhaps be the "iPod" compressed version and since people seem to tolerate iPod AQ, then the Imax AQ should suite the majority but for those who like high fidelity, we want the best AQ offered and want some sort of scientific proof that they are identical except for volume level. |
