I have upgraded to Blu Ray and am starting to build a nice collection. I am at the point where I am buying movies that I already own on regular DVD. So, naturally I want to get rid of these movies. Whenever I want to sell one, wether it is EBay or Half.com or any place on the net that buys used DVDs - I run into extremely unfair pricing. Some are trying to get 0.75 cents a DVD??? Does anyone have any sites or ideas on what I can do with all my old movies?

I would suggest either trying to sell them in a yard sale or taking them to a retailer like FYE that sales used movies and music.. They will sometimes give around $3-$5 per DVD depending on the condition, how old it is and how many they have on hand. It's not much but there are really no other alternatives.

I'd just give them away to charity.

I have sold many of my replaced DVDs to people I know, mostly by posting lists on Facebook, and usually charge $5 per standard DVD/movie, and $15 or so for a season of a TV series. I only replace the DVD once I've already bought the Blu, so getting anything feels like I'm saving money. Then, I take the money I got for the DVD and put it aside, and when I have enough money to buy a new Blu, I feel like I'm trading in movies that I already own on Blu for new movies that I don't.

One option you may want to consider, depending on your tax bracket, is to donate the discs to charity and take a tax write-off. |

I sell mine on Amazon Market Place but, only if the value is $10.00 or more otherwise it isn't worth my time.
What I do with the ones that don't have any real value anymore is I purchased about 100 empty Blu-Ray double cases and remove the DVD and BluRay from their original case and put them in the double case. Plus some BluRay titles don't have all the special features that were included with the DVD. I used to sell on Ebay but, it has become too much hassle and their fees have gotten out of hand. Also, I can't compete with the bootleggers selling cheap bootleg copies of DVDs. |

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we are moving into an HD world.
Like other posters pointed out, unless you have some rare OOP discs, DVDs will become near worthless in the next 3-to-5 years. I started selling most of mine through my workplace classifieds. I probably averaged about $4.50/title, but I did get some thing out of them. But I still have roughly 100 or so DVDs that can't sell. |
