Default Hollywood "A" list

I was wondering which actors/actresses are considered to be on the current Hollywood "A" list and which actors/actresses have dropped off?
What is the current pecking order in Hollywood ?

Bale is not A list. He's made hit movies by playing established characters. He's never headlined a hit movie that wasn't based on a well known character, and he's got a reputation for being difficult to work with.

I agree that Pacino and De Niro have dropped off, although I would consider Cruise as dropping off as well, but Jack Nicholson has earned a permanent place on the A list. I would add Tom Hanks to the permanent A list, and throw Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Leonardo DiCaprio to the A list. In terms of box office Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Nicholas Cage, and Russell Crowe would be on the list as well.

In terms of pecking list Will Smith is the undisputed number one. He could get any movie made right now and if he makes an action movie it's guaranteed to be a blockbuster.

Where did you hear Bale has a reputation of being hard to work with?

I hope you aren't basing that solely off of the Terminator thing.

I agree with Will Smith. Slap his name on just about anything and it will make money. He had what, 8 straight films with $100mil+ in the US?

The people I would consider A-List:

Guys:
Will Smith
Brad Pitt
Leonardo DiCaprio
Russell Crowe

Gals:
Angelina Jolie
Julia Roberts
Meryl Streep

I think people like Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, and even Julia Roberts, are kind of falling off, but you could argue are still on there.

And in general I think the A-list actor is a dying breed, because people seem to care less and less about the actors in the movie, and more and more about other things (story, special effects, gimmicks, etc).

Being an Aussie, I would like to include Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett. However, I think Nicole needs a couple of big roles/films to get her back up to where she was when she received a best actress oscar for "The Hours". Don't think she has had a big one since then.

Hugh Jackman? Probably not on the "A" list yet, but maybe "A-" ?

It's not just the Terminator thing, although that is part of it. He does a horrible job promoting his movies, and has admitted he doesn't enjoy being interviewed. During interviews he usually refuses to talk about his personal life and often gives short answers to questions. Getting arrested for allegedly verbally assaulting his mother and sister didn't help his reputation, even though he was never charged.

He does seem like an A-hole but then again a lot of actors are snobby A-holes. From that listening though it does seem that he has a super ego and could be hard to work with. But thats the only negative thing Ive heard about him! Got Em!!

None of that has anything to do with being difficult to work with. That's more like being difficult to get an interview with.

I like that he doesn't like to talk about his personal life, it's called personal for a reason. Everyone doesn't need to know every little detail about your life like some celebrities seem to think.

This isnt necessarily my personal A list but its what I think it is at the moment as far as hollywood is concerned. I also dont think there is a such thing as "permanent" A list status! if u fall off u fall off! Also I just named my original list from the top of my head from who came to mind first. i didnt name them all and I agree that leonardo belongs on the A list group also. Will Ferrell............heck no!!! Got Em!!
