I am talking about Death at a Funeral a new film starring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan and Danny Glover. it slated for release next year.
Here's the trailer for it Now I hear you saying "I haven't heard of a film called 'Death at a Funeral'", well it was directed by Frank Oz (bowfinger) and I think wasn't recognised because it was British, and it didn't even do terrible at the box office. Here's the trailer for the original Now here's the problem you watch the two, and they are exactly the same, even the Dwarf is the same, which begs the question, why remake it? sure you may make some money, but this won't do gangbusters. It just doesn't make senses, why get some money hire some actors a do the same movie, just have Black culture in it. The original film wasn't that great either, quite funny, but I wouldn't run out and praise it. Just...Why? |

The British version is great. It does seem to be a fashion in Hollywood to remake British things over the last few years, even though only a handful have been successful. It would not surprise me if the script is the same but with a few Americanisms thrown in.

Americanizations aren't the same as Remakes:
Remakes are made out of geek-sentimentality (or an attempt to validate a thin concept by attaching your own movie to a more famous example)-- While Americanizations are more of an insecurity that studios either A) can't believe that audiences would want to see something from a foreign studio and not in English (even when it is), and make it "safe" for mass consumption, or B) that they don't OWN the original since they didn't make it themselves, and that a version they make money on has to be domestically produced from scratch with all the investors and crew safely under US roofs and all working for the studio. In this case, though, C) it's Chris Rock, who thinks that he has to "blackwash" any respected art-film comedy he happened to rent, into an upwardly-mobile-black idiom by FUBU-remaking it with an all-black cast. (Qv. the Rock remakes of "Heaven Can Wait" and Eric Rohmer.) Yeah, remember that Oscar thing where he satirized black audiences who went to see the Wayans Bros. instead of the Best Picture nominees?--He's not all that far away from the problem himself. Wow. The remake looks awful. Really shows the difference between two cultures.

Exactly what I thought. When I first saw this I thought it was just a coincidence it had the same title, did not watch the trailer until foggy brought it up. It is not like it was a foreign language film (except in some locations in the south
