Default ANGEL: 10 years ago tonight...

The Joss Whedon 'Buffyverse' expanded 10 years ago tonight, when the WB network premiered "ANGEL", following the exploits of the great 200+ vampire with a soul.

Rather than simply run off an oft-repeated list of favorite episodes or comparisons to Buffy, how about sharing a few recollections about your thoughts when knowing the show was coming, and initial impressions of it when it all began.

To remind viewers of the humble beginnings this show had, have a look at this:

Season 1 Launch Trailer
10 MB mpg file

To commemorate, I'd suggest throwing on the pilot episode, "City Of" say around the 9PM hour if there's nothing on that conflicts.

I actually skipped the premier of this show because I really didn't like Buffy all that much. The characters were too 2D for my tastes, even though I watched it to the end.

then someone told me it was darker and more adult than Buffy and I gave it a chance starting around episode 3 or so and was hooked.

Angel is easily one of my top 5 favorite shows of all time.

Angle was an amazing show, I wish they had not stop it after 5 seasons the way they did, that final still feel empty to me.

Good idea, I will watch the pilot episode tonite as a happy birthday thing

The FAITH episodes of Angel were classic.

Eliza Dushku took that character to a whole new LEVEL of crazy on that show.

I love the Batmanness of season one, even Doyle refers to Angel's apartment as the batcave

I need to get the complete series set, I rewatched season one on hulu awhile ago, but it's been a long time since I saw any of the rest

I'm starting Season 1 tonight. Never seen it before, don't know much of anything about it, other than it being a spinoff of Buffy, and that Christian Kane is in it as a lawyer or something.

I'm going into this fairly blind, and I love that I don't know shit about it.

Amy Acker and Charisma Carpenter were the best things about this show and it really took off after season 2.

So I'm watching the 1st episode and the guy who helps him out says "Have you looked in a mirror?" and then is like "oh..well...guess not."

And it hit me. Vampires don't even know what they look like, huh? I mean...someone couldn't take a photo of them and show it to them, because they wouldn't show up, right? They couldn't look at their reflection in a mirror, because they wouldn't show up.

So can you imagine going along in life, and not knowing what you look like? WOW that's gotta suck. Unless you're ugly and then it'd be alright. But if you're one of those pretty boy Twilight kids, that's gotta suck, huh? heh heh...suck.

Other than their face and back, vampires probably have a pretty good idea what they look like. Just watch the show and bear in mind, it will get better.

Oh I like it. I just had that thought.

Right now Angel is just consoling blondie who was having a bad dream or something. After he rescued her from that Euro-Trash looking dude in the parking garage.

I never saw this show when it was in production, but have watched it over and over before I go to work in the morning.

There is a hilarious episode in season three or four that addresses this subject. It's one of my favorite episodes.

I love both Buffy and Angel.

Seeing that picture up top is just depressing. I really liked Glen Quinn way back from his days on Roseanne and I found his suicide very sad, I really wish something could have been done to help him, he was a very talented and friendly guy by all accounts I've heard.

Well it would depend on when you where turned I guess, mirrors in one form or another Pre-date Christ. And you'd think by taking away vanity they would just be a lot less self absorbed lol.

The reports say it was an accidental OD. Also don't forget Andy Hallett's death last year... he played Lorne, the green demon that enjoyed singing. Very sad indeed.
