Default On the fence about getting a projector. Please help.

I currently have a Panasonic 58'' tv for the past two years and it's working out well. I'm moving into a new place next week and now have the option to put that tv in my bedroom and get a new one for the living room.

I'd really like to get a projector that is more impressive than the current tv I have. I plan on getting a pull down screen since the walls are rough cinderblocks.

I have a budget of around $4000 for a projector any good suggestions?

Also if there any recommendations for a pull down screen?

4k is plenty enough for a decent projector, check out projector reviews dot com on what one you want and make sure to get a ISF-Certified calibration with your new investment,it helps in the long haul having picture spot on,then color's being bland and unrealistic to the film,TV shows ur watching..

lot of detailed information, test's on projectors for 2009..
http://www.projectorreviews.com/1080...ctor/index.php

once you get that taken care of,check out
http://www.imagingscience.com/isf-trained.cfm
for your projector calibration, coming from factory most projector's and just as plasma,LCD's,the colors, pop, black levels, white levels, could be cleaner, more vivid with a few tweaking to the color settings and whole lot of other settings to dial in right.

just find your area.

Congrats! 4K is plenty of a budget for a nice projector. I recently purchased the Epson 8100 and that was a mere $1599 and I am quite happy with the picture quality and the quietness of the projector. The Epson 8500 UB can be had for $2299 after mail in rebate, leaving you plenty of room in your budget for a screen and perhaps some other goodies. I purchased my Epson from http://www.visualapex.com and their customer service is outstanding. Worth of note if you are planing on using this in a living room you might want to go with a grey screen to help with contrast.

I've been researching projectors for when I purchase a bigger place. I can't emphasize the importance of removing ambient lighting in your viewing room. If there's too much light, or your projector doesn't produce enough lumens (sometimes called candelas), then the colors will look washed out.

that is my dilemma. I have a new place with 3 large windows in the living room, is there anyway to keep those open and still be satisfied? of course I'll get blinds but lets say I dont want to close them will I be ok? how many lumens is sufficient?
