For some reason my receiver has started randomly powering off on it's own while watching tv. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm watching a blu ray or if I'm watching regular television. I'll be sitting there and suddenly it just cuts off. I can power it right back on and sometimes it will do fine, other times it cuts back off in another minute or two. Anyone know what's going on with my receiver?!?

thats about the same thing I was thinking. I have an onkyo receiver as well it's out in the open pretty much and have never had that issue at all.

It's a 606. It's inside an entertainment center with one of those cabinet doors with the dark fabric on the front. I bought it this time last year and up 'til now it has not been an issue.
I just re-ran the self calibration feature with the microphone. I don't know if this will help but I figured it certainly can't hurt. |

I had that problem with mine a good while back. I suspect that it was a wire touching another causing it to short and enable the protection. When I rewired everything for a speaker upgrade I never experienced a problem like that again. Check your wire connections in the back to make sure no wires are touching. Also examine your wires to make sure there are cuts exposing any bare wire.

aside from heat issues, what may cause this to occur is also the speaker impendance. it might be too low for your AVR to handle. in general a good AVR can handle speakers rated from 6-8ohms. if using HTIB speakers, some of them are rated at a lower impendance, somewhat from 4-2 ohms.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=71469 i second that as well in regards to the wiring, please kindly check if any strays are out there too. Last edited by jomari; 01-01-2010 at 08:31 PM. |

it would also help if you listed all other equipment connected to the receiver to include speakers and their ohm ratings. this type of info should always be given when asking for help so that we don't have to ask for it and can get right down to trying to help.

My speakers and sub woofer are Polk Audio. I honestly do not know the ohm ratings. Sorry but I bought it as a set. All 6 components are Polk Audio brand. I cannot remember the model number of the set that I bought. |
