Good day all members,
Watching hdtv channel from my set-top cable box, the left and right ends of the image are cutted off when viewing on my flat panel screen at 16:9 native picture format. What settings I should use to resize to view entire hdtv image at 16:9 picture format? Thanks for your help. |

IIRC setting your TV to 16:9 does crop the edges a little bit. Your TV should have a setting that doesn't crop at all. It's called different names by different manufacturers. It might be called 'just scan' or something like that.
What model of TV do you have? |

Oups, excuse me. I forgot to mention it. My flat panal is Samsung PN58B850. Thanks fireman325.
Ref here from the PN58B850 user manual: "Size Occasionally, you may want to change the size of the image on your screen. Your TV comes with six screen size options, each designed to work best with specific types of video input. Your satellite receiver may have its own set of screen sizes as well. In general, though, you should view the TV in 16:9 mode as much as possible. •• 16:9 : Sets the picture to the 16:9 aspect ratio. •• Zoom1: Stretches the 16:9 aspect ratio picture vertically. •• Zoom2: Stretches the Zoom 1 picture vertically. •• Wide Fit: Stretches the picture both horizontally and vertically to display the optimal picture. •• 4:3: Sets the picture to the 4:3 aspect ratio. •• Screen Fit: Use to stretch the picture so it fills the entire screen. OO Press the P.SIZE button to change the picture size. NN Each adjusted setting will be stored separately according to its input mode. NN The items available may differ depending on the selected mode. NN Temporary image retention may occur when viewing a static image on the set for more than two hours. NN After selecting Zoom1, Zoom2 or Wide Fit: Press the ◄ or ► button to select Position, then press the ENTERE button. Press the ▲ or ▼ button to move the picture up and down. Reset : Press the ◄ or ► button to select Reset, then press the ENTERE button. You can initialize the setting. NN After selecting Screen Fit in HDMI (1080i/1080p) or Component (1080i/1080p) mode: Select Position by pressing the ◄ or ► button. Use the ▲, ▼, ◄ or ► button to move the picture. Reset: Press the ◄ or ► button to select Reset, then press the ENTERE button. The TV will be reset to 16:9. NN Use the function to see the full image without any cutoff when HDMI (720p/1080i/1080p), Component (1080i/1080p) or DTV (1080i) signals are input. NN HD (High Definition): 16:9 - 1080i/1080p (1920x1080), 720p (1280x720)" Last edited by platinum; 01-18-2010 at 03:50 PM. |

My TV is also a Samsung plasma, but it's a couple of years old now and the menu options have changed. Mine has an option called 'just scan' and it displays whatever content you're playing with no overscan at all and in its original aspect ratio. It sounds like your TV is using some overscan. I was trying to look at your manual on the computer here at work, but it's a lousy computer and I couldn't get it to download completely. Keep checking to see if your TV has anything called 'overscan' and if it does make sure it's turned off. Also check the output resolution of your satellite box to make sure it's not a setting on that end that needs adjusting.

I finally got to see your manual online, but a search didn't turn up anything for overscan. It's weird because it looks like when you have the TV set to 16:9 that it stretches SD content to fill the screen, but I can't tell that for sure. Is that the case or do you ever get black colums on the sides of the screen with it set to 16:9?

Just FYI you might be more likely to find an answer to your question if you ask in the plasma forum.

I find somehting about "Just Scan" function in my manual, as follows: (Ref page 7): "Setting the Screen Size If you want to change the size of the image on your screen. Press the MENU button to display the menu. You can set the picture size by selecting Picture → Picture Options → Size. Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the screen format you want. (16:9 / Zoom1 / Zoom2 / Wide Fit / 4:3 / Just Scan) Alternately, you can press the P.SIZE button on the remote control repeatedly to change the picture size. O" Is there the same function that you talked about? Thanks Upadted: This procedure is found on the Quick Guide, page 7 and not on the manual itself.
