United Kingdom Superman/Superman Returns audio?

Hi there!

Been very tempted to buy the Superman/Superman Returns set on Blu, but because there are two copies out there (one with lossy audio and one with True-HD), not sure how to tell which is which.

Anyone have any clues?

Cheers!

hey

Superman The Movie has never been released on Blu-Ray with a lossless soundtrack, however Warner did apparently replace Superman Returns with a PCM track if I am correct? HTH

I think the double Blu pack has the one with lossy audio - though I might be wrong.

Furthermore Superman The Movie isn’t the original Dolby stereo mix as exhibited in (1978) 70mm Dolby format 43. Its been re-mixed and even the so called original over the extended directors version has some sly new sound effects placed on the Dolby mix as well as few missing Foley effects SIGH.

I think the 'Collectors Edition' (4 Disc or 2 Disc, Region 4) DVD has the original stereo track.. have not watched it in a while though.

NO don’t think your ether 100% positive or not. Warner made a real sheer mess of this. I noticed it all the way though and was mighty pissed off!

I have the original Dolby stereo 4.2.4 scope on VHS PAL and unless you have old copy on laserdisc or VHS for analysis, then I assure you its the same sly messed up version. I have them all on DVD region 2 DVD and I’m not amused.

I don’t mind what Richard Donner had done to the directors cut it’s the original version of the 70mm road show that I want to listen too, as it was also the first film to have (split-stereo surrounds) and all they did was slyly place the new sound effects over the so called 1978 original.

Hence its not original in sound the picture is cut to the same length it’s the Dolby mix they botched up! I’m telling you. In certain parts of the mix!

Take a listen to the petrol station exploding during the earthquake sequence it’s the same sound effect (used for the directors cut ) and that is new sound effect not the original sound effect as heard in 1978!

Listen to where Perry Mason tags on Daily Planet newspaper WTF! Where is the sound!!! Listen to the France or one of the other language tracks which I guess you don’t do, listen and you’ll hear!

I just picked up Superman Returns with TrueHD a couple days ago. You will have to look at the back of the BD case to see which audio track it has.

Amazon in the U.S. is shipping out copies of Superman Returns (linked below) that feature the PCM/Dolby TrueHD soundtracks. The BD is region-free and will play in Europe, or anywhere for that matter.

I do not think it is worth the small price difference, because many of the Marketplace copies will be the older, lossy version. You might want to contact a seller directly, and ask them if the back of the packaging lists the PCM/TrueHD.
