Default Alice in Wonderland (2010) BR - June

According to a recent article in the Daily Mail, the new Alice in Wonderland (2010) will be coming to DVD and BluRay approximately 3 months after it's release in theaters.

Apparently, some theaters in the UK are up in arms and refusing to show it.

"But despite all this nurturing of Burton's vision, his movie is under threat of being smothered at birth. Quite extraordinarily, the UK's three largest cinema chains - Odeon, Vue and Cineworld - are threatening not to show it.

They account for 65 per cent of the UK's cinemas, and 90 per cent of the 3-D screens, so the threat is a serious one. Given that the premiere is next Thursday and the movie opens on March 5, it's a disaster.

The cause of the angst is that Disney wants to release the film on DVD and Blu-ray only three months after it opens at the cinema, rather than the standard 17 weeks. It wants to get the DVD into the shops before the midsummer doldrums, and to capitalise on the marketing of the movie while it is still fresh in people's minds.

But the cinemas are afraid that people will just wait to buy the film on DVD rather than spend money on going to the pictures. They aren't alone: four big cinema chains in Holland are boycotting the film and the Italians are rebelling, too."

I find it hard to want to go to the theaters when they have such quick turn around time 3 months is not a long wait at all.

The buzz I'm getting is a lot of theatres are refusing to buy it now because they think people will just skip the trip to the theatre and buy it when it hits disc.

That would be interesting if a lot of theaters refuse to show it.

How would the average theater-goer even know about it's scheduled release date?

It seems to me that if the studios and theater companies had kept this information tightly-wrapped, then the DVD/BR release date wouldn't even be an issue. Personally, I didn't know the turnaround would be that soon, but I can see why people would wait now that the unofficial release date is out in the open.

I plan on seeing it in 3D theaters regardless.

So much for that, looks like it's Burton's most successful theatrical release to date, going to see it today myself.

I'm going to be sorry to let everyone down with this negative comment but I really thought "Alice in Wonderland" was very disappointing.

I was really looking forward to this movie like hell. I mean Tim Burton is an amazing director with movies like "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sweeney Todd." I think he did a great job with Disney making "The Nightmare Before Christmas." There maybe some of his movies that I don't like, like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Corpse Bride," but even his worst movies had at least a lot of moments. And yes, I did love the original Alice in Wonderland cartoon.

This however was not a relation to the cartoon or any of Tim Burton's greatness and good-and-bad. This was horrible. I mean there weren't any related facts about Alice in Wonderland and too much of this Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter taking too much of the screen. And I really liked how The White Rabbit said "I'm late. I'm late. I'm late." He says nothing of sort as "I'm late for a very important date." This is not the Alice in Wonderland I grew up with, this is very impertanent information I saw them calling Alice in Wonderland.

So I'm sorry to disappoint all you guies but I really didn't like this movie...really! And I won't be buying. I'm sorry that I'm letting all you guies down with this comment, for those who like it, but it wasn't the story I grew up watching.

I prefer the single disc slip art but will still end up buying the multi-disc version instead. The multi-disc slip art isn't bad, it's just not as good as the other, imo.

Ditto, A black cover with Chester eyes would have been nice too.

I wonder if any store like Target and Best Buy will be doing giveaways with the movie. That would be awesome. I don't want the film cell on Amazon.

That's about normal now. Avatar was four months two (some are as small as 2 and a 1/2 to three months).

"So id be better off buying war of the worlds?"

I think that if you are unsure, you should just rent the movies and see if you like them enough to want to spend the money later on to own them.
