It's to coincide with the release of the new movie, I think. There won't be a Blu-Ray release.

Why so confident in assuming there wont be one, head in-chief of Walt Disney Home Entertainment? If Dumbo gets a Blu-ray release. There is no doubt on my mind that Alice in Wonderland would strike with one too.

Unfortunately, since it was released in 1951, they may wait until the 60th anniversary next year.

"59th Anniversary Edition" has a Mad Hatter ring to it though!

While I love the title ("Unanniversary edition"), I think I'll stick with my current version until they go blu with this.

I actually assumed they would, given the Burton version. Too bad... but I can wait.

Pretty much--
The DVD-only re-releases have now been downgraded to just publicity marketing, like the Mary Poppins DVD re-release that just turned out to be an extended commercial for the stage show, or the "Wizards of Waverly Place" ads stuck onto the Bedknobs & Broomsticks re-release.

The movie itself has been upgraded to one of their "classics" since the 2-disk SE (not bad, considering it started out next to Dumbo as one of the unwanted "orphan" titles), so we'll get a respectable Blu version in its own scheduled time, just...not today.

Maybe they'll do the DVD release of this will go with the theatrical release and the Blu-ray release will go with the DVD/Blu release of the live-action Alice.

i think that is the newer tv edition release, and the other one is the old disney cartoon release. im sure they will be releasing the blu ray soon with it then.. maybe when they release the new tim burton film?

DVD Only release. I posted this on the Disney Sticky way earlier today.
Look for the Blu to tie in with the 60th anniversary next year, and look for it to be released simultaneously with a 3-D version of the Burton disc. The 2-D Only Burton will be coming in September. It's also possible that Disney will release the Blu at that time, though it seems unlikely since the schedule is already really packed.

not that wikipedia is official for anything lol, but they have it listed as being a 2010 re-release, as well as dumbo, both on blu-ray as well as the dvd....

This is a DVD only release. If it hasn't been properly restored to meet Blu-Ray Specs, I would MUCH rather them wait and not release an inferior product.
