I hadn't heard of this but I was just htinking how perfect the iPad will be for a remote. Why would I spend 200 on a Harmony one when for 500 I can get an iPad that could do the same things, on a bigger screen, plus so much more.

my iphone battery barely lasts a day as it is with how much i use it, i dont need to be adding a remote to that list. But it is a cool option

I use iRule (http://www.iruleathome.com)
I'm a beta tester and this is a much better option imo. I control all my remotes, lightings, garage door, etc via networking so no need for a line of sight like with IR.
You can also create your template, the lay out of your buttons and so on.
The app was just approved by Apple so you should take a look, there's videos and tutorials on the website...

This sounds good. Is there a limit/list of what devices it can control?

We are going to get my wife an iPad for her work (to replace her old PDA to use Hipocraties or whatever it's called) and I'll definitely try out a remote software on it if I can figure it out!

Don't think I would rely on my iPod Touch as my HT remote.

Sure it sounds neat, but also means it would need to stay in the room for use...cant very well play on it while the wife watches TV...

"Honey could you pass the remote"

"Hold on dear I'm on level 26 of Bejeweled, give me one second"

"But honey, I need to change the channel!"

"Dammit I'm top score! wait just a second geez!!!"
