Finally, after waiting for this since I bought my first DVD player 12 years ago, I'm finally able to watch this in less than a month, for the first time!

Who else is excited about this release.

To the Blu-Ray.com team: When will you add news about this and add entries in the database?

Any new release by Dire Straits or MK as a solo artist is welcomed by me.

It means July 3.

In Europe, the month comes after the the day.

thanks.
I was thinking maybe that was it, but I didn't get why the word "May" was sitting there taking up space.
I mean why is it even there?
anyway, thanks!

Arkadin,

I just looked again, and though what I have written above about the month/day placement in Europe is correct, it does not actually clarify the release date. It looks like each site is estimating the release date:

Between:

May 03 - 14, 2010
May 03 – 07, 2010

Though one of them also claims that the release would be in April.

Australia Alchemy PQ Rumoured Poor

Hi - has anyone seen this yet? I want to buy it from Amazon UK but the word on DTV Forum in Australia is that it's really only 1080i (not 1080p as the cover says) & the PQ is really poor. Appreciate any insights folks...thanks.

Yes PQ is poor and 4/3... and the AQ it's not amazing, i do prefer the LPCM track... raw like it should be... anyway it's a must buy for this kind of music fans

Having had this title on laserdisc and now on blu-ray I can report that the BD pq is very grainy (the laserdisc was much less so though it was apparent the original had some hefty grain), but it is about as good as we are going to get. However, the contrast and colours are noticably better than other formats! Of course, the sound has one huge benefit - surround mix!! It's not as good quality of some music titles but its a great addition to this title and lifts it well above other formats.

In summary, I may have been expecting too much from this BD but having readjusted my expectations its fair to say for die hard fans it is worth purchasing!

No one has mentioned this about the Alchemy blu ray yet so I guess it's gonna be me.

As most fans will know "Love Over Gold" has NEVER been included in any Alchemy tracklistings/cover artwork EVER (LP, CD etc) but it's STILL THERE!!

NOT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Blu Ray continues the tradition of not listing "Love Over Gold" as a track but HORRIFYINGLY goes the extra yard and ACTUALLY F@#*ING LEAVES IT OUT.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when "Romeo and Juliet" ended with the usual intro to "Love Over Gold" and.............WHAM..........."Private Investigations" starts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT IS NOT F#$%ING THERE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

CAN YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS LEVEL OF STUPIDITY EXISTS???

As for the rest of the disc PQ is obviously down on that of newer releases, and YES it's in 4:3 but at least on my system it shows as 1080P (no, I am not upscaling)

Now to the feature that matters most........AQ!!!!!!!!

Put simply.....BRILLIANT, SUPERB, AWESOME

To the guys that put this Blu Ray together.........I BOW to you, with one obvious caveat.

I'm sure there must be some reason for this GHASTLY ERROR but I'm pretty confident it WASN"T a SPACE issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what ever happened to MikeZ?
I mean he was the one really wanting to get this.
weird.
anyway, I got this from amazon.uk the other week, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
I am very disappointed to read the above post that indicates that "Love Over Gold" track is missing.
that is inexcusable, and needs to be brought to the attention of the audio/producer/mixer forum that originally discussed this release.
It certainly needs to be redone if that track is indeed missing.
perhaps there are 2 versions, as some people are claiming 1080i, and other people are saying 1080p.
I mean how could that be?
I'm going to play my copy right now, and see what my display shows.
EDIT: ok I did a little reading, and actually "Love Over Gold" was not on the original album release.
It was added for the cd. Still, considering it was in the original vhs, etc. release of the concert film, imo it should have been included here. I'm thinking maybe a personal decision of Knopler, but who knows.
anyway, I can't find info so far regarding what this was shot on, but it certainly appears most like 16mm.
The bd looks somwhat similar to the performance footage of the Woodstock film.
the footage is obviously very effected by the lighting, and looks very typical of concert footage shot like this imo.
It is very possible that there was some type of artistic filtering done to the original source material at the time of the original release.
The times where the lighting looks natural--like the beginning of "Romeo and Juliet" shows nice strong detail.
If the whole concert had been filmed outside in natural sunlight, I'm sure it would look much better from a detail standpoint.
the lighting causes the colors to be overly saturated throughout the whole film, and this is the main cause of the overall soft, somewhat ill defined look--along with whatever film stock was used.
Overall, when you take into consideration all that, it looks very nice imo.
bottom line--it was grainy and hazy originally, and it still looks that way.
(which is a good thing imo)

Australia Finally.....

One of the greatest concerts of all time finally comes to BD.

A shame they couldn't do anything about the picture quality (4:3), but the sound quality is brilliant! I don't think I've listened to the album since I got the BD, and that's saying something!!!

I love the early Knopfler material............

Now, how about releasing PINK FLOYD's PULSE???

I finally snagged this from Amazon for $12.75. I have only seen the concert once, and that was in the late '80s. The picture quality is better than I expected, and the surround mix is fantastic! The booklet was a nice surprise, as well.

As far as the hair on the camera lens goes, this concert was famous for being released "as-is", so I assume that is why they didn't tinker with the video.

Is this a film or video source. Is it just a video upscale or remastered film source?
