Default Playing Music & Film with a Yamaha rxv359

I have my PS3 connected up to a Yamaha RXV359 via Optical cable and the sound is just outstanding, but I would like to set the Audio higher than 48 kHz for both Film & music. When I set it to 44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz I get no sound on CD’s could anyone tell me why this is as I have tried very setting I can think of

set the CD output to 44.1 kHz.

Hints

* You can upsample the sampling frequency of an audio CD to output audio at 88.2 or 176.4 kHz.
* The following conditions are required to output audio at 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz.
* - The audio device in use supports a sampling frequency of 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz.
* - [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] is selected when either [HDMI] or [Digital Out (Optical)] is set under (Settings) > (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings].
* When the audio device in use does not support frequencies of 88.2 kHz and 176.4 kHz, sound may not be emitted from the device. Also, even if it does support 88.2 kHz and 176.4 kHz, sound may be intermittent or may not be emitted from some audio devices. In this case, uncheck the [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] and [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] checkboxes under (Settings) > (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings].

PG.32 of your user manual shows the sampling frequency rate support ...

"32kHz,44.1kHz, 48kHz,64kHz,88.2kHz,96kHz"

...did you try 88.2 and it didnt work? maybe its just an incompatability issue? Is there an option (button) on your reciever for higher bitsampling? from what Im reading, try putting your reciever on "straight" mode...does that do anything for you?

Yea have tried all of the above but it is still showing 44.1, There does not seem to be an option on the Amp to force a higher bitsampling. On the PS itself I can’t deselect 44.1 as it is greyed out but I can select 88.2 etc but it does not seem to use it.

Thanks for your help.
