Hence, an approximation of what it would look like on Blu-ray . . .

On TV it will be 1080i. No one is broadcasting in 1080p. Only 720p or 1080i.

Has anyone ever compared 1080p to 1080i side to side? I have, you can't discern any difference. The info is shot onto the screen much faster than the human eye can detect. I have better than 20/20 vision, it has been tested by the military to be 15/20. I have been told that if it is on a 60 inch or larger screen and you are sitting within 5 feet of the screen that you might be able to detect a slight difference during very hectic action scenes. Just a marketing excuse to get people to spend an extra $1,000 for a tv.

Actually, you don't need to have excellent vision to see the difference between I and P. Granted, most people will never see it, those that are aware of it can notice it.

I personally have seen it a few times. The scene gets so busy, stuff gets blurred or disappears.

The Movie was too long, you build the ship, sail the ship, hits an iceberg, the ship then sinks, its over!

I guess you summed it up in a nutshell. Maybe you should have been entrusted with final editing of the movie.

won't even come close to compare with BD's 1080P output.

I don't think its true. IF TNT is getting a good hi-def master of the movie, there is no reason why it shouldn't look almost as good as a potential Blu-ray version. Remember it's all in the transfer. By the way, even on standard def cable, I think TNT has one of the best pictures consistently. I can only imagine how good some of the TNT HD material must look.

The only thing that would play into the quality of the picture would be the compression used. That in itself could degrade the quality. Sure they may have got a pristine copy, but the means of transmission and the compression used can really make a difference.

Well I guess for a few more years to come we're gonna be talking about terrestrial transmission bandwidth issues. That's why movies have to be compressed so much in the first place.

Well with DirecTV's announcment about the expansion of their offerings, hopefully along with the additional bandwidth of transmission, they also have the room for better compression technology, or even better, less compression.
