Because with inferior technology, it's very difficult to get things right the first time.

So what happens if Warner seens the new single releases selling better than the combo releases will this possibly weigh on the scope of their support? I also noticed that the new release from Warner that is both BR and HD DVD combo no less are priced at the exact same price 35.99 so what gives why are the BR prices going up now when they used to be the cheaper than the combo disks. It is for the Oceans 13 release.

BR will be cheaper, thats the list price, very few stores/online stores do this price. However with discs not being combo on hd dud anymore they will be the same as BR prices, which sucks but all well. As to the whole selling better thing, they may sell better but chances are it won't outweigh the sales the BR has so I wouldnt worry on that front either.

They probably have tons of HD DVD discs left over and they can't be bothered to glue them onto DVD's. It's obviously cheaper just to print a new cover.

These re-issues will have a neglible impact on sales but it makes the HD DVD release volume look good. Another example of WB continued bias?

Combos are expensive for Warner and for the consumer. So they are removing the Combo part.

The combos have proven to be VERY expensive to make (as in much more expensive than a BD50), and they have caused no end of problems for consumers in the wild.

The purpose of the combos is to reduce the returns due to DVD consumers accidently picking up the HD DVD when they are displayed with the DVD as a new release. But, they can go back to just HD DVD for subsequent production runs because:

(1) The stock HD DVD are displayed separately from the DVD.
(2) The rates of consumer mistakes fall to acceptable levels, pushing the profit maximization over to the minimum production cost, which is plain HD DVD.

This is where the "the consumer doesn't know what Blu-ray is" works to Blu-ray's advantage in this situation. DVD doesn't appear anywhere on the Blu-ray disc case. They know it is something different.

Gary

I wouldn't worry much - many HD DVD owners will already have the combos so the rerelease on HD DVD only won't get them to rebuy...
