Exclamation Bootleg 3D Blu-rays and how to avoid them

Is it possible to bootleg a 3D Blu-Ray? If so, what are the indications that it is infact a counterfeit if a purchase is made outside of the retail market?

Thanks and I apologize if this has been covered.

First, don't buy from any seller outside of the country (and that goes double for Ebay, avoid any country in Asia that's not Japan there, and be suspicious of Japan cause those guys tend to sell on Yahoo Auctions) that isn't reputable like DDD House, YesAsia, CD Japan, Play, etc. Those guys are guaranteed legit through years of good reputations. Only buy from Ebay sellers that have long standing good reputations and scan back a couple hundred transactions looking for problems with bad merch.

If the disc will read in a DVD-ROM drive, it's a bootleg. If you see Chinese characters, and it's not one of the above shops, stay away.

And if it's Avatar, everything up there goes triple.

Default Bootleg

One sure fire way that I can tell if it's a fake or a bootleg is the main title is written in crayon !!!!

easy, just look at the back. If its dark blue or black, then its a copy.. If its silver or almost see through its real.

If the price is too good to be true, it almost always is.

And yes, if you happen to be trawling eBay or vacationing in Asia (well, with the possible exceptions of Japan and Singapore), be wary of BD (and DVD) vendors.

There's programs for pc that do 3D MKV files now so that you can digitally back up discs. Some may be doing this. Not surprised really, it's still a small markEt but people are desperate for content. If they just released the 3D versions at same time this would probably stop people risking this. The 3D bootlegs tend to be side by side images that have to be infused with the option on your tv (like Sky3D) instead of just direct 3D. This is the settings that are on the pc programs. If the sky 3D AVATAR has been copied it's a sure bet it is likely to work just fine. I still have mine saved on the hard drive and won't delete it until the disc is officially released.
Anyone actually gotten a bootleg by mistake? Did it work?

Yes, I got them on Ebay. $80 for Avatar and $30 for The Last Airbender. I thought I got a great deal on Avatar considering what theyre going for and there was no indication in the description that they were copies. Out of curiosity I quickly checked out Last Airbender last night. Pq was pretty good but my glasses switched off after 5 seconds. Will change my battery just in case and check them out some more today. Im not going to keep these tho. Ive already asked for a full refund. Oh well, I tried and thats how its turned out.

And for the record these came from Queensland, Australia. There was also a website attatched to the auction page http://www.aussiebluray.net which seems to not be coming up for me anymore. I also recieved a business card of theyres. If anyone wants a scan of it?

Just checked out Avatar quickly. Takes it time to load. The 3D looks good but freezes up when I skip chapters. And my player sounds like its being tortured. I will watch it today and get my Avatar 3D fix. That will do me until it comes out locally. I guess I can thank the ebay member for the free preview.

Thanks for that Fenris.

I too have bought what appears to be a BD-R Avatar from Ebay.
I kinda figured as much with the price of $48.00 although the seller claims " This is genuine NOT a Bootleg. Clearly a lie.

1) I cannot see though the disc when held up to the light. Not even when its a few cm away from a halogen.
2) The burn surface is black not silver.
3) The menu chapter mini screens don't all work properly
4) It looks nothing like the photos you have posted. Not the disc or cover.

The 3D looks pretty good though....so at least i didn't pay top dollar like some did on Ebay.
It doesn't play on an ordinary dvd player though. Mine wont even read it...so guess its a BD-R not DVD copy.

So for the people who have bootlegs, is the video and 3D quality good or is it lacking? Is the genuine article that much better or is it just a situation of paying too much for a fake.

In respect to Avatar, you should be able to tell by the cover image. The Last Airbender one looks exactly like the legit one though.

Dunno why people are paying stupid amounts of money for Avatar anyway - its fairly easy to get one for nothing if you play your cards right.

Default panasonic UK Avatar 4 movie package -- scammed ?

Hi,

new here , so sorry if this has been asked before......

I picked up suppoosedly what was the 4 Blu-Ray Panasonic UK promo package including Avatar 3D from ebay, and was wondering if I have an original Avatar 3D disc or not ? ( or someone swapped it out for a boot and sold along with the other 3 originals to make it more saleable thus going for a slightly more clever scam than selling outright )

If its a boot its a very good one, but some things are bugging me as follows:

- Packaging was different from the other three films in a slim vs std size box
- disc is silver, see through with a light and wont boot on a pc dvd drive
- the art printing is relatively good, but the text maybe has a hint of blur.. cant really tell ...

- If I look at the central leader around the centre of the disc on the silver side it looks a ittle narrower than other blu rays I have
- In addition the holo text / bar info ( 2 circles printed around the inner of the disc )that is normally printed around the center of the silver side looks super faint... on all my other blu rays it is super clear holo type printing but on this disc its super faint and I can barely read it... and of course being narrower it seems they are closer together than usual.
- the disc isnt silver all the way to the center and I can see a portion of white at the centre of the disc which is the printing showing on the other side.

Does anyone have the PAL official release to compare aganst ? just want to identify if someone is trying a more clever scam....or I actually have the original and it just happens to be this way.....

thanks

BIG S

Reads like you're describing mine which I know is legit.
