As I look at all of the collections on BD.com, I see that everybody's DVDs and BDs are in immaculate condition. (Almost as if they've never been watched).
How do you guys keep the corners so sharp on cardboard sets? Do you keep the shrink wrap on the box set and only slit it to get the discs out? I'm pretty obsessive about my movie collection, and even mine have some compression dents in the boxes and worn corners. Back in 2002, I bought The Simpsons DVD boxsets. $54.99 retail!! I made the mistake of loaning them out to a friend. Long story short, I got the Box set back and it looked as if he drove over it with his car. Those kinds of things end a friendship ![]() Nowadays IF I lend out a disc, I always send the disc in a slim jewel case. I also do this when going on road trips etc. Who else does this? I'm sure many people are in my position, so I figured a thread was a good idea. With 57 TV DVD/BD sets, I have to protect my investment ![]() |

Same here I leave all my boxes on the shelf and only remove them to take the disc out and then it goes right back on the shelf. I have a few with dents but that's becuase they happened at the store and were cheap enough I decided to live with it but I'd say 99% of my collection is in perfect condition.

Honestly, I watch them often, but am very careful when taking them out of the bookcase. I can't see myself doing a CD folder, because it scatters the collection. It works for some people though. Remember those poly jackets for LPs and Laserdiscs? I'm surprised those were never made for cardboard CD and DVD cases (Unfortunately, most Box Sets aren't one size fits all). |

![]() Unfortunately, I learned that a bit late with my Simpsons DVD. |

My cases have the same corner issues as everybody else, but usually those come from how they where in the store when I bought them. Don't stack your cases horizontally, I learned from being a Vinyl record collector for a long time, vertical is the only way to store things because you will destroy the cardboard by laying them down horizontally, the weight will start to crush the cardboard. Other than that, most of my Blu-ray collection is in really good condition. I'm usually the only one to handle my discs, so they always stay looking brand new. Cases are all in pretty good condition for the same reason. Slipcovers are as well for the most part, except for the already mentioned ones that arrived otherwise and then the occasional damaged corner or two from wear and when I moved my collection to my new media tower. I try to keep fingerprints to a minimum, but you can only do so much for that of course. |

Mine remain on the shelf at ALL times, including while I'm viewing the disc. It has it's allocated spot and that's where it stays. Some have acquired a rounded corner or small indent over the years, but for the most part they are in the same condition as the day of purchase.
As far as lending them out...NO WAY. I tell people to go purchase them like I did or go rent them for $6. If they don't like it...then BOO HOO for them. ![]() |
