Unhappy My new Mac has jaundice

If you are getting a MacBook pro you may not want to know this information and live in peace. I wish I would have popped a vicodin and lived in la-la- land; I put on my detective hat and now I am totally bummed out.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=343219

After getting my mac I saw it had a problem with discoloration on the screen. Apparently this is a well-known issue but not admitted to by Apple. I took it into an Apple Store who said it was "within specs". I talked to a manager who opened another one and it had the same issue.

Apparently there are two screens Apple uses in MacBook Pros. The Samsungs have problems. The LGs do not. So what you have is some people complaining and a group of others saying they are nuts. BTW, the ones on display in the Apple store are LG's.

I have invested so much in accessories and the restocking fee is 10 percent so I am basically up that ol' river without a paddle and a new laptop.

This is the type of BS that usually happens with anything I buy...

Sorry about that,

thanks for the heads up!

Guess i'll stick with PC this round.

Otherwise it seemed to be a nice system. I am just sorry I saw this yellow part on the screen and looked around on the web. The default background is blue and masks the problem.

Anyone getting a MBP may have better results with a matte screen. The glossy ones all seem to be Samsung right now. A second issue I had was the screen doesn't close flat. One corner (usually the left) is ajar on them. (I could have lived with that problem but it shows there is a defect in the Chinese assembly lines.)

Here is a video which clearly shows the problem. Does anyone know the program? It looks like a windows Paint program.

(Calibration would work if the entire screen was the same color and needed adjusting. Another "fix" offered by users is making the screen as bright as possible.)

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I've never had a problem with any mac laptop display, LCD Monitor (Acer) or the Panels in my Prima or my current Sony Bravia. Not one dead or stuck pixel.

I owned the original 12" aluminum pBook and currently have a February-March 2006 era 15" MBP.

Try sending an email to Steve Jobs about your situation.

My brand new MBP is awesome. No problems here. But I have the 17" gloss so it isn't LED like the 15". Is it only happening on the 2.2?

I have a MacBook Pro 17" Gloss 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo w/ 4GB RAM and 160@7200RPM Harddrive.

Sorry to hear that though. Sucks spending that much money and not having something that meets expectations.

BTW, How do you know whether the screen is LG or Samsung?

This is from the thread I referenced in my first post. The author made an error which I am correcting.
System Preferences>Displays>click on the "Color" tab>Click "Open Profile">go to number 13. If you see 9C67 the manufacture is LG, 9C68 [is Samsung.]

The thread has a giirl who had the issue and took it in. She tried all the systems and all were bad. She wound up with a 17" and is very pleased too.

The 15 inch matte screens may be ok now but that thread really needs more data to tell. The MBP reeks beauty though as a machine. I can't believe Apple is saying it is "within specs" when they are known for their graphical work. I guess they don't care about that title any when it comes to the 15.4" MBP or MB

Mine says 9C61.....perhaps its because of the size difference.

Is it a 17" one? That doesn't have a backit LED system which apparently causes this problem. Some users have relented and just stepped up to the larger screen because they were tired of trying to get it fixed.

Those numbers vary depending on the revision. Mine is a first release MBP.

You got the Glossy version? Most early reviews implied that the glossy version was not suitable for print work but ok for casual video work as colour accuracy was not as critical for video work given the multiple possible colour profiles and temperatures possible with end user screens.

I believe most reviewers noticed less colour accuracy with the glossy displays.

How long ago did you buy it? See if you can do an exchange for a matte display MBP.

There is a lot of back and forth on the display. The "genius" at the Apple store reinforced that the glossy was the one to get for any graphics. The glossy is supposed to have more vibrant colors. It's main flaw I read of before my purchase was the reflection. Matte's originally had the tinging issue but now it has switched over to the glossy screens. Samsung seems to be the culprit. (I look at my 56" HDTV and shake my head.)

I am going to see if I can get a matte. If they ship a glossy back out to me with the issue I will keep sending it back until its fixed or they tire of me. I want it to work so I can. They want to minimize cost and know this one has a problem. They must deal with the same issue all day long.

I sent him an email. I really doubt anything will come of it but who knows.

The ipod nano has a loud pop when it comes out of sleep mode.
The Adobe CS3 they keep sending me is the OEM version not the Educational Version.
The MacBook Pro 15" is known to have an issue.

The only one I really want fixed is the last one.

I have renter's insurance but I don't really feel like going that route.

The corner (left) does not seat all the way down on almost all systems when shut. It's considered "in spec". Now people are starting to say they have dust, dirt and hair behind the display. Gee, I wonder how that got in there?
