I would buy a mac right now if it had a bluray drive. I am holding out to buy one until it comes with one. Anyone else?

I wouldn't buy a mac for the same reason that I wouldn't buy a Dell: I don't do proprietary systems, and Mac is the most proprietary of them all. It's the reason why they don't blu-ray drives, because they offer no consumer choice. A mac is what it is right out of the box, and if you try to tinker with it (and void the warranty), you wreck it.

My wife got one last year, I got one at the beginning of the year and I love it. For general everyday use I enjoy using it a lot more than my PC. I find everything to be more intuitive and user-friendly. As far as a Blu-ray drive, I have no use for one.

My MAC does a job for me and does it well. I don't play games and don't want to build my own computer (For info: I work in the I.T. industry) and I don't want anything with Windows on it (a poor product).
My advice for anyone buying a computer is decide what you want to do with it and purchase accordingly. As it happens, a lot of my friends swear by linux/variant platforms. . |

I'll never own a MAC. It has nothing to do with Apple or Microsoft for they both are there to take your money. Neither company cares about the consumer - only money. But my reason is simple. I play several games that are designed for Windows only and I don't want to have to download some "crack" just to play it on a MAC and then have the game stop working when they send out patches/updates for the game. Besides, with having a PC I have the ability to install an internal Blu-ray drive from any company that makes them not just Apple and it wouldn't void my warranty if it were still in effect.

I use my Mac all the time, for work and fun. But I use my custom-built PC for gaming and gaming only.
I will never use a windows machine for anything else. My Mac just works better, is stronger, is easier to use, and Apple has the best customer service of all the computer companies according to a recent study (check it out on USAToday). Not to mention it look to much nicer and for an artist, that is an important thing. I find most ppl who don't like Mac are just used to the way Windows works. Either that or they build their own systems, which is the only way to own a PC. But of all the pre-built computers, if you need to get one why not get one that built not only the computer, but the operating system, and a whole slew of award winning programs? Oh, and it runs Windows better than windows machines. Seriously. Nothing proprietary about that. As far as Blu-ray goes, yes I am waiting to have a Blu-ray drive, but only to add to my iMac. I am not going to go buy a new one for many years so I will get an external one once A) prices drop B) more software for burning/authoring BDs is out. |

![]() Yeah, I heard that too. Apple was ready to add it but decided not to until Sony could release a better one. The rumor is now that we will see an actual product by Spring or earlier. I am really just waiting for the software updates. |

XP > Mac > Vista
Leopard will run fine on any Core 2 Duo box you want to configure. If you insist on spending 2x what the hardware is worth on the Mac, at least dual boot it to XP so you can use it for something practical - like a computer. ![]() |

Just bought a iMac and love it. Its dual booted with vista and a decent gaming machine spec wise (3.06 ghz dual core, 512 dd3 video card, 3gb memory). The apple employees said be probably be a year before macs come with bluray builtin. Just buy an addon drive when available. With boot camp u can use mac os and windows with ease. Leopard is more user friendly than vista by far.
