Wait...Wii U can connect to 3DS?

Saw this on Iwata asks on Nintendo.com. I think some people seem to miss this.

They also mentioned at the press conference that Smash Bros. would be on both the Wii U and 3DS and they would interact. I just hope they get more use out of this connection than the GBA/GC connection that only took advantage of Four Swords, FF:CC, and Pacman Vs.

The major problem was cost back then. And the concept was too new and/or Nintendo's backdoor away from online. I think it was more or less 3rd party support than anything. Third parties rather invest money online than something (at the time) only one console used.

The only game for the GC that I can I actually remember being online back then was Phantasy Star. With their last few consoles what Nintendo had in innovation, they lacked in standard features. It plagued them when they stuck with cartridges for the N64, little to no online support for GC, and no HD or DVD playback for the Wii. It's like having a car that can run on water but lacking air conditioning and power windows. It's the only analogy I can think of.
What I took from the press conference is they are moving back towards the core gamer market with the big HD graphics and online play but @ the same time trying to keep a foot in the door with the casual Wii market.The new controller seems to be even more polarizing than the Wii-mote was.

EXACTLY. I've been saying this for years .Nintendo always let's themselves in to one market, but lacks in another. I just want them to be big in both. Ironically, their handhelds don't seem to suffer as much.

Wii U looks to be the best console since the SNES. I could care less about the whole "lagging behind PS4/720". I really doubt the PS4 will jump over the PS3 as much as the PS3 did over 2. I'm just not seeing it. And if those tech demos are what Wii U can do, I'm happy. I still want that GCN tech Zedla DEMO!

As long as the online is great, and I have Metroid Prime HD I think the console will be a great success.
