Always been a favourite of mine, although could say the same about a lot of Bill Murray films.

About bloody time!

This movie scared the cr*p out of me as a kid at the parts where "Ghost Lew" and the "ghost of christmas future" show up. And yet, I watch it every christmas, and can't get enough of it.

Now to have it in HD and to watch when I want = WIN!

Yeah, we get "Scrooged" over here during the christmas season, and nothing homely like "A Christmas Story". We're weird like that.

(Note to self: Watch "A Christmas Story" for the first time ever. )

Groundhog Day has already been released in Europe (although not in the UK, and why that is is totally beyond me). If you don't mind importing, the German release can be found for dirt cheap. Oddly enough though, the European version that I have (with English cover) was released by Sony UK!

I liked the film, just not enough to even buy it on DVD.

"what sort of a rat bastard idiot......."

As a Bill Murray fan I love Scrooged, for me its an absolute classic and required viewing every Christmas. But I do have the dvd, and if the bluray doesn't include any special features or the transfer is below par then there is no real need to upgrade.

For me there has to be something worthwhile to make the upgrade from dvd to bluray.

Ok, at least with this film I don't need to slit my wrists to finish it

This better include all of the special features from the canceled "Yule Love It!" DVD edition.

Yeah if it included that plus a decent transfer then I'd definitely purchase it.
In case anyone is wondering or can't remember here is what was supposed to be on that "Yule Love It" edition,

-Commentary by Director Richard Donner
-Christmas to Remember
-Updating Ebenezer
-Bringing the Ghosts to Life
-The Look of Scrooged
-On the Set with Bill Murray - Part 1 and Part 2
-ShoWest Message from Bill Murray
-Theatrical Trailer

Since it's bumped already... I've been thinking about this movie and how it tends to disappoint me right at the end whenever I watch it. Weirdly, it's the fact that Frank Cross turns into..... Bill Murray at the end.

Murray's characters up until this time always had capacity for sharp sarcasm and sometimes contempt, but usually reserved for bullies, blowhards and bores. It was, at the time, quite a change to see him play a consistently cynical and cruel albeit comedically gifted character. The first 90% of the movie is his best performance up till that point in my opinion. But when the movie enters the redemption phase of the conclusion of the story, Stripes and Meatballs Murray appears, with his good natured haranguing and goofy motivational speeches. It's where the film departs from the source the most. And that awful COME ON SING! part doesn't help.

The Zemeckis/Carrey adaptation almost loses it in a similar way. There's plenty of Carrey in his portrayal all the way through but it is in danger of becoming all Jim on Christmas morning. But thankfully, the movie does stick to the text and depict Scrooge's epiphanies convincingly and tastefully, showing Ebeneezer as contrite and not just suddenly full of himself for deciding to turn over a new leaf.

Scrooged kind of rushes into "here's Bill!!!" so quickly and so fully that we sort of forget all about Frank Cross.

But that is my only complaint about this movie. Everything else is just brilliant. Allen, Mitchum, Kane, Goldthwait and Glover.... everybody is on great form. Even Buddy Hackett!!!! I guess Dickens brings that out of people.

I agree. And I think the problem is, Bill Murray is clearly improvising his entire speech. Since Cross is not very Bill Murray-like, this scene should have been tightly scripted. Instead, we get Murray going completely off the rails. Then he stops, and everyone else looks very uncomfortable while they sing "Put a Little Love in Your Heart". I like the movie a lot but the final scene is awkward.

Who's to say it wasn't? If you know the movie, you know the history of how awful it was behind the scenes.
