Default Budget System

I am looking to get a surround sound system to go in my main TV room. 300-600 dollars is about as much as I am comfortable spending.

Will I be able to get anything good with that and if so what would you guys recommend?

Is this for everything? Or, what do you have so far?

Onkyo-HT-RC230-5.1-Channel-3-D-Ready $139.99

For these two, make sure to check the clearnce tab

klipsch-quintet $274.50

klipsch-sub10 $212.40

Little more then $600, but a budget system

HERE's another satellite speaker package if that's preferred. Its an amazing deal right now and it will free up a little more cash for a better receiver.

How would that receiver be in a bedroom with klipsch hd 300s?

Thanks for the tips guys, I was thinking more along the lines of buying an all in one set, just seems like it would be easier to set up that way.

I was looking at this one and it seems to be well reviewed, http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3400...3418141&sr=8-1

So is this thing a piece of crap or a pretty good deal for 299?

It is a good value. In my great room I have an older Ht-R550 Onkyo (7.1 at 110W/channel), it is a workhorse and sounds great.

One thing I would do with any HTIB system is upgrade to a better speaker wire. Most come with an 18 gauge wire, I would replace them with a 14 or 12 wire -- you can get a 100 foot roll and a bag of banana connectors from monoprice.com for $25 or so.

I've heard that system is hard to upgrade because it has a passive sub which means the receiver wouldn't support a powered sub if you upgraded to one. I'm not 100% sure though, but I remember reading something along those lines
