Default Budget System

I am looking to get a surround sound system to go in my main TV room. 300-600 dollars is about as much as I am comfortable spending.

Will I be able to get anything good with that and if so what would you guys recommend?

Is this for everything? Or, what do you have so far?

Onkyo-HT-RC230-5.1-Channel-3-D-Ready $139.99

For these two, make sure to check the clearnce tab

klipsch-quintet $274.50

klipsch-sub10 $212.40

Little more then $600, but a budget system

Hamp, let me get this...

http://www.amazon.com/Jamo-S506HCS3-...3210798&sr=8-8

also a little over your budget, but a great starter system.

HERE's another satellite speaker package if that's preferred. Its an amazing deal right now and it will free up a little more cash for a better receiver.

How would that receiver be in a bedroom with klipsch hd 300s?

Thanks for the tips guys, I was thinking more along the lines of buying an all in one set, just seems like it would be easier to set up that way.

I was looking at this one and it seems to be well reviewed, http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3400...3418141&sr=8-1

So is this thing a piece of crap or a pretty good deal for 299?

It is a good value. In my great room I have an older Ht-R550 Onkyo (7.1 at 110W/channel), it is a workhorse and sounds great.

One thing I would do with any HTIB system is upgrade to a better speaker wire. Most come with an 18 gauge wire, I would replace them with a 14 or 12 wire -- you can get a 100 foot roll and a bag of banana connectors from monoprice.com for $25 or so.

Cool, I think I will go with that then. I figure it can be a nice system for a little while and then I can move it to my bedroom when I have enough cash to buy an expensive one down the road.

I've heard that system is hard to upgrade because it has a passive sub which means the receiver wouldn't support a powered sub if you upgraded to one. I'm not 100% sure though, but I remember reading something along those lines

Hello, new here. Can't make my own thread yet so I was hoping I could ask a few questions too. This would be for my bedroom, approximately 12x15. I was curious about that Jamo set that you posted callos01. Is there a review on it somewhere, or do you have some personal experience with it? I couldn't find anything when I searched for it.

Any comments on the Jamo vs. something like Energy Take Classic 5.1 ($399) or any of the other sets like the Infinity TSS 800, or the Klipsch HD 300, or the Polk RM6750 mentioned in this, and another thread?

Also, are there any receivers around that $189 receiver that would be worth getting? With shipping it comes to $207 for me. I more than likely will not go beyond a 5.1 system for a long time, if ever.

These are all pretty much within the price range I was looking to spend and any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm very pleased with my klipsch hd 300. They are perfect for a bedroom and I got them for $170 from buy.com, might jump on that for that price. You can also find a Onkyo 5.1 receiver for $140 (not including shipping) from accessories4less. Hope that helped

The Jamo set will offer more then the other systems you are looking at from the point that the towers will have more output. It will still need a sub eventually, but Id take the Jamo over any of the others, with the Energy Take 5.1 second. The Onkyo 508 for $189 at http://www.accessories4less.com will be the best receiver at its price. Jamo has a nice warm sound that is easy to enjoy.

Ditto, heard those speakers and the asking price right now is quite ridiculous this is a really nice set of speakers and towers alone a worth a lot more than the asking price for the whloe 5 speakers..

Okay, one more question then. Would the Onkyo SR508 or the NR509 be better for an extra $45? I prefer new, and it has 1 extra HDMI input. Besides the 7.1 capabilities is there anything else it really has over the NR509? I also plan to pair this with the BIC sub, it seems like a great value.

I used to own the Jamo 426 5.0 set, and they sounded fantastic for the low price tag ($260). My only complaint was the center speaker was a bit underwhelming for dialogue during quiet scenes. Easy fix if you set the center 3-4db hot. Although the 506 set appears to use the S60 center which is a better than the S420 center that came with my Jamo 426 set. You will absolutely love these speakers for music. At least I did.

Did you ever use them for games or action movies?

I watched blu-rays & played games on the PS3 as well as listening to music with the Jamos. The bass extension was pretty decent on the towers, but I used a subwoofer in my set up. Like I mentioned before my only gripe was the weak center speaker, but the set you're looking at has a better center.
