Isn't this new?? Or have they done this before?

Shadow delineation on this 1080p/MPEG-2 encode (versus VC-1 on the HD DVD) is really quite impressive, at least in the early parts of the film

Interesting, I wonder if the royalties on mpeg-2 are cheaper, so they can save money by doing another encode, and Blu-ray has enough capacity to use mpeg-2 at a higher bitrate.

His comment that you posted is very badly worded. It appears at first that he is saying the shadow delineation in the mpeg-2 is better than the vc-1, but when you read the hd dvd review it becomes clear that isn't what he meant, as it says "Shadow delineation on this 1080p/VC-1 encode (rare for a Warner title these days, it's not identical to the MPEG-2 Blu-ray) is really quite impressive, at least in the early parts of the film."

Um, I just watched this one a couple of days ago. It was VC-1 with the typical Warner bitrate.

the website you posted say main feature VC1, supplement Mpeg2.

Yes, I just noticed. I remember him mentioning MPEG-2 but now it's VC-1.
