United Kingdom Dredd 3D Blu-ray (2012) [Region Locked / Free]

Am looking forward to the release in September of the reboot of Judge Dredd.

Was not a fan of the Stallone fronted campfest from the 90's as they turned him into a laughing stock and being a fan of 2000ad, they commited sacriledge by making him take his helmet off!!!

Karl Urban fronts this one & we've been promised the Dredd we've always longed for.

I'm hoping that this will match the planet of the apes reboot for quality.
Its being shot in native 3d as well, plus he is going to be keeping his helmet on, this time!!!

Dude although this is a forum section for discussion on 3D blu ray releases, I tend to get shouted down for posting about it......that aside, at least get the movie title correct...its called Dredd not Judge Dredd

Dredd should be good I hope (better than the Punisher movies hopefully). Karl Urban's known for his role as Eomer in Lord of the Rings, and a few other movies, including Star Trek, Priest 3D, Doom and the upcoming Riddick sequel I see.

Hopefully it's in 3D and in theaters by December 2012. This one has Dredd fighting against drug gangs in a futuristic city, where he's a policeman/judge/jury and executioner it's said.

I wasnt aware of this movie coming out, im definitely excited for it. I too, thought the stallone version was a huge joke. Having Karl Urban in the title role is certainly enough to make me want to see it. Not only was his work in lotr terrific, i thought he was great in the chronicles of riddick, should be a very interesting movie.

The 2D trailer looks pretty cool. Hopefully a 3D version will surface soon. I like the futuristic city and art style.

It has been shot in 3d & will be with us in September. Will also feature Lena Headey (game of thrones) as a gang leader and a rumour of Dredd's biggest foe, Judge death!!!

I'm really looking forward to this. Looks somewhat cheesy, but I love Karl Urban and the fact that it's being shot in native. From what I can gather in the 2D trailer, it looks like we're going to be in for a big treat when we see the 3D version.

One thing I have to mention though, am I the only one who immediately thought of the action movie "The Raid: Redemption" (the one that came out this year) when they showed the setup with the big skyscraper? :P lol

Judge Dredd is complicated because it's been around for decades. It's like with Batman, the Adam West show is as accurate to Batman as the Christopher Nolan films depending on the source.

I believe Dredd has had the same writer for its entire run, so it stays consistent. But there's a lot of escalation and the stories get pretty bizarre.

I think Dredd 3D was very good at capturing the core of Judge Dredd and Mega-City One. I'd compare it to Batman Begins. There's a lot more of that world to explore(robots, aliens, mutants, Judge Death) but this film did a great job at introducing Dredd and Anderson.
It got the tone right. It manages to treat its ideas with maturity while not taking itself too seriously and being able to joke about itself. They treat Dredd exactly how he is in the stories, where you know he takes his ideas too far(he's essentially a fascist) but you'll often find yourself on his side in certain situations.

I really hope we get a sequel because there's so much more of this universe to explore and we only got to see a little bit of Dredd as a character. I'd hope that a sequel would explore and challenge the character's own beliefs about the law while also introducing us to some of the crazier baddies of Mega City One.
That sounds cool. Thanks for the detailed comparison of the Judge Dredd comic.
It's disappointing we likely won't get a Dredd sequel unless an independent smaller studio funds it and it goes directly to cable TV or video, which can be just as good as theatrical, as has been the recent trend for many high profile movie stars (doing direct to video feature films).

I'd really like to see a Dredd 2 with Karl Urban, but that is dependent on home video sales and foreign box office.

Movie theater audiences can be very picky and often times say, "I'll wait till it's on video", which is their right, provided they're buying it, and not choosing to get free copies (which doesn't support the filmmaker's efforts).

Also at my local theatre, they didn't run it in 2d???

It's kind of like the reception Priest 3D got in 2011, also based on a comic. It's a niche title without a AAA movie star line up, and even though vampires are poplular and all (Dracula, Twilight, Underworld), just as super heroes are a popular genre (Avengers, Batman), but the rating R, and the gory, violent content will mostly appeal only to diehard action/sci fi/comic book fans.

That's my best guess anyway as to why it seemed only a few thousand or so of us really cared to see it in theaters. 6.2 million isn't the worst considering the lowest US opening of all time was around $447,000 dollars for that 2012 movie about the Huggables and the Balloon Ride Movie or something.

The real problem is, I don't see the box office for Dredd 3D overseas yet, which is where Resident Evil Retribution made a huge % of it's money. If they get it overseas in more theaters if not already, there is still hope.

I'll do what I can to support this film. I might catch it again in 3D, and I'm definitely buying the 3D Blu-ray.

I can't see this being like Kick-Ass, because it had a larger budget and a smaller first weekend. But I really really wish we'd see a sequel.
It disappoints me that a film like Clash of the Titans that has a way larger budget, but was still pretty boring(IMO) and had terrible converted 3D, was still able to get a sequel(that still has converted 3D) even with its poor box office(it still did better than Dredd sadly).

Dredd has awesome action scenes, a good script and it has some nice *native* 3D. But Lionsgate put so little effort in promoting the film, and it's so unlikely to get a sequel now

I can only imagine the places we'd go with a Dredd sequel. Dredd was faithful, but it was relatively small in scale compared to what's in the comics. For example, here's a list of some of his best stories http://io9.com/5944097/top-11-essent...-dredd-stories
If they were to tackle just one of those stories, it'd be amazing as a standalone film and as a sequel.

Alex garland toyed with the idea of doing the dark Judges but decided on a story centred around Dredd & what he was all about which i thought they done brilliantly!!
He did say if the movie done well it would be a trilogy with the dark judges being the third

I'm pretty sure it opened really strong at # 1 in the U.K., which I thought was a pretty big deal considering that's where the comics were written in the U.K.. The Brits must have really loved it at least

Default Dredd 3D Redbox

If you rent the bluray at redbox, the 3D version is on the same disc! Very cool and a great surprise when I got the option to play it in 3D or 2D . There is only one bluray edition and it includes the Bluray 3D option on it. I wish more movies would have this..

So I pop in this movie in 3D and the DTS H Master track is spectacular.
But what's up with video quality? Everything on my oled looks like it has a 'lime green' tint and also a lot of close-ups seem overblown with high contrast even covering details on actors faces. Is that normal?

That's typical of DOP Anthony Dod Mantle style. He shoots everything on digital and then gives a high contrast and often over-saturated look. It's like a digital version of what is known as a bleach bypass when done by photo-chemical means.
