Default Have you ever wrote/thought about writing a script?

I have so many ideas, yet I cannot find the time to simply sit and write them.
Just wondering if people have ever done it before?

I know the likelihood of anything happening to them is minute, but itd still be nice to write one.

I've written several story treatments for my own work and for properties I'd love to adapt. I personally hate the actually screenwriting task but overall, I'm a storyteller and I love to flesh it out and eventually bring someone in to work with.

Surprisingly though, I make a pretty decent script doctor.

Yes, I have written 10 full length scripts in about 7 years. Plus I have lots of other ideas and I'm currently working on one at the moment right now.

All of the things I've done I've written myself. I have no real formal training at all. All that I've learned is from online, reading other produced movie scripts and commentaries along with other bonus features on dvd/blu rays. I've had a couple people read them and for the better part it was positive.

I guess you just gotta find that one genre that you like and go to work.

I would like to get into the business, but that's another entire thread.

I wouldn't pigeon hole yourself into just one genre. If that's what you're comfortable with, that's cool but I know I never like to do the same movie twice. Only one of the projects I've written has potential for a trilogy but each film is radically different from the other.

I know, I have stuff in all kinds of different genres. But if you feel you work best in that one go ahead why I said that.

And plus if you have ideas, just take a few minutes to use a notepad that's on your computer and put them down quickly and go back to them later when you get the chance. That way you don't forget something later on when go back to it again.

Have you seen any benefit in using any script writing software to structure your scripts?

The program that I use is Final Draft. It can help you yes. Makes it alot easier then using a non script writing program.

Absolutely. I have Movie Magic Screenwriter and it is invaluable when drafting a script. It automatically formats as you write, very beneficial so you can focus on the content and not the formatting. You can also bookmark and easily find scenes, etc.

I've written a few scripts and have some treatments/outlines. I did study film and film writing in school and have some experience with writing/script contests/agent representation, etc.

I have thought about it and have done so. None of them leave my care until the day I decide to share them with carefully chosen people in my life. They are my IP and will stay there for now. For the non-personal IP ones, I wrote a screenplay then script for two video game franchises. The first was for Pitfall : The Mayan Adventure (and wrote it with Bruce Campbell in mind as he voiced the character) and then for Dead Space before the sequel came out.... Those are at best staying on the hard drive and backup system. My best friend owns and runs a small independent film & production company and he has me proof his scripts and screenplays often. Writing is my favorite hobby!

I've had numerous ideas but didn't begin to execute any until recently. The last year and half has given me a lot of downtime and the thought of writing about personal experiences became more and more frequent. I finally started getting some of it down and it's begun to form into a humorous take on being in your 20's and finding the transition to adulthood difficult for those that didn't take their adolescent years so seriously. My life has had it's fair share of absurd moments, and chronicling them has been both entertaining and enlightening. I hope to have a screenplay worth of work done this year.

This particular project was essentially a practice run to see if I could write, and most that I have shared it with have been very supportive. I'm hoping that after I'm done, I'll be able to jump into something more imaginative and create some fiction.

Lame excuse. You have the time, you just haven't done it. That's called laziness.

I don't mean to rag on anyone in this thread, cause I'm sure alot more are talented then me.

But if you wanna truly do something and you have tons of ideas, you will eventually find a way to do it. And the thing about nothing ever happening, you will never know unless you try. Can't be afraid to fail, or you'll never be successful with that attitude. it took me a couple years to finish and then come up with another premise for something else. I could have easily quit, but I didn't.

But again script writing isn't for everyone. You need to devote alot of your time and effort to this. Not only first coming up with the ideas and writing it out, but also looking over at it to see possible stuff that can be taken our or perhaps stuff even added in some places.
