Default Without Blockbusters going Blu-ray exclusive...

...Blu-ray's sales lead by now should be 3 to 1 because people would have been buying movies instead of renting.

disagree completely...blockbuster's going exclusive creates more interest in blu ray...people don't buy movies just because they can't rent them...they would just rent it on dvd...also, blockbuster having a whole blu ray section generates interest in other people who havent gone blu yet

yeah to bad my blockbuster stores dont have blu-ray not even hd-dvd because i wanted to rent a movie from blockbuster and not 1 single Blu-Ray movie not even a PS3 game available, no hd-dvd, just vhs, dvd, xbox, xbox 360, gamecube, and thats about it. but it is true that the building looks like its 20 years old or maybe even older and plus the movie covers are so worn down you can barely even read what the cover says

i checked every inch of the store and didnt show any blu-ray advertisements, what it costs to rent a blu-ray movie, no new blu-ray discs, and yes vhs was available a whole bunch of them maybe thats why it doesnt have blu-ray

For example, if a person wanted to watch 'Casino Royale' on high def, the only way that person can watch it is buying it or renting from netflix. 1/4 of the time, that person would just go buy it, and 3/4 of the time that person would just rent it from netflix or not buy it at all. That brings me to another point, that's how HD-DVD is beating out Blu-ray over at netflix because HD-DVD people can't rent them at blockbuster. The part you said about they renting it on DVD, I myself is so accustomed on watching movies on Blu-ray that I haven't rented a single DVD in about 6 months. I totally agree with you on blockbuster generating interest.

Have to agree. It is extremely rare for someone to spend $500 to watch a $5 rental.

I'll keep repeating myself in hopes of everyone understanding. Great BD sales are nice because it helps to win over Warner and Universal come after Christmas season. But it does NOT make HD DVD go away until December 2008 because of the Paramount / Dreamworks deal.

At best we stalemate them and keep them at bay. This is still like trying to sweep back the ocean. As long as it is being produced, consumers will buy it. The fate lay in the hands of the studios.

If you have not already, please read my open letter in my signature. This stale mate might even lead to long term consumer indifference and the eventual demise of BOTH products. Doesn't matter how great something is if no one buys it. Right? Just read the letter, guys.

What do you mean by "go away" here?

Retailers have no interest in studio support per se. Examples: Free Record Shop, Meijer.

When sales get to a certain point, anything goes away.

My local Blockbuster now has 200+ BDs, no HD DVD. They should be getting new ones on the date released from now on. I believe some stores participated in an initial rollout to test the waters for rentals with this format.

Coupled with my netflix subscription for rental, I'm pretty much set and will only purchase what titles I deem "must buy" based upon my own personal preferences for content regardless of PQ and AQ.

That is usually the case. But not knowing the particulars of that contract, I dare say HD-DVD would live on even if ONLY Paramount / Dreamworks movies made the discs. For that reason, it is hard to win this on a consumer level. The studios need to get their act together.

Univeral and Warner have to jump on the bandwagon and leave a fellow studio behind. If you ask me, Disney is the most powerful studio to have on our side because EVERYONE buys Disney.

Not everyone wants to buy Transformers. Elitest snobs.
