It's interesting to see that Sony, after licensing SO many great classics and other popular movies to various labels, decided to take it upon themselves to release/distribute mediocre movie (judging from the overall Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB score) such as this.

The Broadway revival opens in October. Makes complete sense.

Very misleading Akijama. A few years ago, the original out of print Columbia/TriStar/Sony DVD release would have set you back over $60 bucks on eBay, and sellers were routinely getting that much and more for it. Sony re-released it full screen only, and even that DVD sold. The film certainly has its fans...

But in the larger sense you're right, of all the classic Columbia catalogue titles Sony has suddenly decided are worth doing themselves rather than licensing to Twilight Time, Image, or Mill Creek, it does seem a tad strange.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. And yes, I know how different it is from the stage musical (which I'm looking forward to seeing on Broadway this fall), but I still love this movie. Just watched the DVD again a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I can't wait to get this on blu.

Great review - cant wait to get mine next Tuesday. As for the changes made to the move, I grew up on ANNE both on stage and the move so I love both equally, though I see them as two different beasts. In my opinion, Annie the Movie has one song leg up on the show: the hilarious and wonderfully performed "Sign" with Carol and Albert. "NYC" is my favorite song in the show and I miss it every time I watch the move, but "Sign" more than makes up for it for me.

I didn't grow up with the film, so that might have something to do with it.

It's weird to think about all the scenes in and around the mansion were filmed at my college, Monmouth University. They used the mansion for, well, the mansion. It's amazing the way they turned a building full of offices into the mansion you see. I was only about 3 years old when the movie came out so it wasn't my college at the time, but I hope they have some behind the scenes stuff about filming there. The actress who played Annie is an adjunct instructor in the theater department at the school now. When she came back, she said it was like coming back to the set since that's how she remembered it.

With all due respect, this is a completely pointless post. It sounds as if you haven't even seen the movie yourself. Anyone in this thread either has seen the movie and loves it, or is at least considering a blind buy. Both camps probably entered this thread to get information on the PQ/AQ, which thankfully seems up to snuff.

I can even accept someone who has seen the movie and dislikes it. If that's the case, I don't know why they'd click on this thread - but at least they'd be providing an educated, informed opinion based on firsthand knowledge of the material. You seem to bring nothing of the sort to the table.

I got my copy today and I'm excited to watch it. Major childhood favorite!
