I was only about 3 years old when the movie came out so it wasn't my college at the time, but I hope they have some behind the scenes stuff about filming there. The actress who played Annie is an adjunct instructor in the theater department at the school now. When she came back, she said it was like coming back to the set since that's how she remembered it.
Neat stuff! I used to watch this often when I was young. I won't be buying on blu though.

With all due respect, this is a completely pointless post. It sounds as if you haven't even seen the movie yourself. Anyone in this thread either has seen the movie and loves it, or is at least considering a blind buy. Both camps probably entered this thread to get information on the PQ/AQ, which thankfully seems up to snuff.

I can even accept someone who has seen the movie and dislikes it. If that's the case, I don't know why they'd click on this thread - but at least they'd be providing an educated, informed opinion based on firsthand knowledge of the material. You seem to bring nothing of the sort to the table.

I got my copy today and I'm excited to watch it. Major childhood favorite!

Have to look it up, but what I remember (geezer alert) was Richard Schickel's immortal quote from Time, which has become as famous as the movie itself:
"Ray Stark said he wanted Annie to be 'the movie they put on his tombstone'...Funeral services (for his career) to be held starting this Friday at a theater near you."

Got mine last weekend and am pretty happy with the PQ. The AQ could be better but it's a minor complaint. Nostalgia is what drives it for me and really enjoy sharing this with my 2-yr old, who already singing along to some of the songs in the movie.

Thanks for the pictures GxyExpress999! I love how Sony prints on the backside of the cover art so you can see it through the case. Not many studios do this anymore, if they ever did.

Glad my parents didn't listen to that. They took me for my 8th birthday - which they were very excited about, since they loved the Broadway show and couldn't wait to take me and my sister to see it, and we loved it. My friends loved it too.

I had the record (still have it, actually), and whenever "Little Girls" came on (or when we were watching the movie on TV), my mom would chase me and my sister around the house. Today, the three of us are planning to see the Broadway revival together, and we can't wait to see it.

When I worked on a production of Annie in high school, Annie's locket was the toy locket that came out with the movie that one of the kids in the cast still had.

The point is...sometimes critics are twits.

Picked up the blu this week. Looks great! So much fun watching it again.

Skimmed through the disc and I'm glad the PQ/AQ is solid. For the price I can't complain. Carol Burnett

You're welcome. Yeah Sony did a pretty good job with this release and I'd happily support their catalog effort.

I think $15 is pretty much the MSRP so you'll probably be fine.

I wish they did not add the "sing along edition" on the cover art, it is tacky

Yeah, but it's much better than these IMO.

Well, there are sound effects missing from this release. I know about three so far, but I'm sure there are more. Drums are missing from the opening, the bully's grunts are missing when Annie punches him, and harps are missing from another musical interlude. The effects are on the foreign language tracks. This is disheartening.

—00:00:20: When the Columbia logo fades out, there are supposed to be drums as the logo music transitions into “Tomorrow,” but they aren’t there.

—00:15:42: As Annie defends herself against a boy in the alley, he grunts as she punches him in the gut. Those grunts are nowhere to be heard.

—02:05:25: There is supposed to be a harp glissando over the last half bar of “Tomorrow” before it transitions into an instrumental version of “Little Girls,” but it is gone.

My point is that there are probably other effects missing. Why do people have to be so unkind? If I didn't care about something, I wouldn't bother posting it. Miserable. And I guess it would be a different story if Star Trek or The Terminator had this problem (oh wait, they did!)

Thank you for pointing out the missing sound effects. It's sad when things like this happen.

JUust got my copy today, after sampling it, I can say it looks VERY nice, but it's not PRISTINE! It's a good transfer, but it's not redone frame-by-frame like Jaws & E.T. were. I think we're getting spoiled.

BUT.....

It still looks very good. Better than before.
