Default why does everything need to be in a steelbook?

I mean i can understand buying your favorite movie in a steel but whould you buy every single one if it came in a steelbook? Its the movie that counts not the steel

Sorry, if ya feel offended, but i find this thread pretty pointless....

There are always collectors worldwide, i doesn't really matter what you're collecting. Some people collect everything from Coca-Cola or small Cars.....what does it matter? Other people have to watch every football game there is..... Its just your interests. Some people have a different degree when it comes to collecting anything, but basically you cannot look into their wallets or needs

One mans favorite film is another mans worst, so how can we say certain films should be steel and others shouldn't.

I kinda had the same thought. I thought steelbooks were supposed to be extremely limited; even though some are but I've been noticing waves of steelbooks coming out but have little value.

i'll be the first to say it, this thread is meant to do nothing more than to get folks for and against fighting about it; like they do in other threads about steelbooks.

there is no other reason for it. sorry, calling it like i see it. i guess we gotta get something stirred up since it's friday.

This is a pointless thread. If you really want to know - as opposed to just enjoying starting threads - then ask in the good few 'Why do you buy steelbooks?' threads that are about. Like this one, the latest that is still on the front page.

Because steel will protect your Blu-Ray investment more than a plastic case ever could.

Also, the steelies look so damn pretty.

For steelbook collectors, what will you do with your steelbook investment when blu-ray is no longer popular in 10-20 years? Do you think it will sell or will you keep them for a souvenir for target practice?

Here are my "rules" :

- I only buy movies I like in a Steelbook case
- They must have german language on it (no disc swaps)
- They must be G2 (blu ray size)
- No fantasy prices (never gonna pay 80€ for a Zombieland Steelbook )
- No double/triple feature steelbooks (except Hangover 1+2 because its basically the same movie and Kill Bill 1+2 because I got it for really really good price)

These rules only apply to X-logies :

- only buy finished sets if possible (Ocean's trilogy, Bourne Trilogy, Mariachi trilogy etc ...)
- Steelbook with the set has top priority (no jumbo Steelbooks though)
- If there's no slim Steelbook available, I'll go with the Digipack, Slipcover, or whatever version appeals the most to me (usually it's the cheapest one)

The hardest rule to follow is the 1st one, sometimes when I see a steelbook of a movie I'm tempted to buy it and I really need to ask myself (Is it really worth it ? Did I actually like the movie or was it average ?)

I think 90% of steelbook collectioners do it like me and only buy the ones they really enjoyed, of course there are some crazy people out there who spend all their money on steelbooks, because they want to have every single one from a certain movie or country (I've seen collections with 700+ steelbooks), others buy the ones they find attractive (debossed, inside artwork, no text on the back) etc ... so only a few people would answer "yes" to that dumb first post.

Now I can't tell for sure what's coming in the future, maybe we will be able to connect our brain to a machine that simulates a virtual reality, but for the next 10 years I think blu ray will be the dominant media (maybe they'll add some layers to the discs, change the resolution etc... ).
If blu rays will be outdated sometime, I will keep my collection (there's already to much money that went into it), I'm sure the discs will still be readable as there is no physical wear when you play them. For this to happen, you just need to handle the discs carefully, store them in a dry place etc ... which I'm sure most collectioners do. I'll also make sure that I'll have at least 1 blu ray player as a security, in case the other one dies.
If I can make my steelbook collection last for 50 years I'll be more than happy, afterwards I won't care anymore

btw sorry for the long post

There are versions of everything.

In blu ray format, the steel is always rarer than most of the alternatives. They dent, they come in crappy packaging and we as collectors just want to see if we can get a mint one.

I plan on keeping my Blu-Ray collection as long as possible. I'll probably be holding onto my PS3, even after the PS4 or PS5 comes out and optical discs become extinct. You know, the same way people still hold onto their NESes, their LDs, their Vinyls, etc. As such, I'll also be keeping my steelbook collection for just as long.

i've recently started getting into steelbooks, and i like to try and get them if the case looks a lot nicer than the standard blu ray. 2 that i can think of i wont be getting is the goodfellas and gran torino because they are very similar to the normal cases

My own opinion on Blu-rays is as simple as four little words:

RELEASE EVERYTHING IN STEELBOOK!

@ JLB - a LOT of threads created here are pointless but that doesn't mean they can't have them

And I think the steelbooks are pretty darn cool looking. However, I sure am not gonna go run out and purchase or re-purchase any movie solely for the steelbook.

Some people gotta have them but they're not very high on my priority list.

Well I cant understand the ones that need to purchase every steelbook never mind what they think of the film etc myself but each to their own...

It is nice to get the steelbooks of films that you like a lot though. And its getting to the point where im too 'scared' to buy normal releases of catalogue titles because theres probably a steelbook somewhere thats not much more expensive (usually). Play.com are really not helping my bank balance though!
