Disney The Hunchback of Notre Dame / The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (1996-2002)

The Hunchback of Notre Dame / The Hunchback of Notre Dame II Blu-ray

The Hunchback of Notre Dame / The Hunchback of Notre Dame II Blu-ray Review

Quote:
Disney has set March 12, 2013 as the day when three animated classics and their direct-to-video sequels will make their Blu-ray debuts. Arriving in 2-Movie Collection Blu-ray + DVD Combo Packs are Mulan & Mulan 2, Brother Bear & Brother Bear 2, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame & The Hunchback of Notre Dame II. Each 3-Disc Special Edition will consist of one Blu-ray and 2 DVDs and carry a $39.99 SRP list price. More details to come.
Source: DVDizzy.com

The film has already been announced for release in Greece and the Middle East in December 2012. Hopefully, North America will see it either around then or early 2013. The only reason it probably wouldn't is if Disney Home Entertainment North America pulls a "Tarzan". Thoughts?

My guess is we'll get hunchback and hercules sometime between the end of this year or next year after a long time being overdue for a new release. What I find interesting is other countries are releasing this with Brother Bear, and the US was supposedly getting Brother Bear in Oct or Nov. Neither DVDS are out of print, and I would really hate if they don't reissue the DVDs too.

Same here, I cringe at the thought.

The only good things about the second were Jennifer Love Hewitt voicing Madeline, and the song she did for the soundtrack. The first is one of the best from the Renaissance era, up there with "Beauty and the Beast". I'd love to see it released on Blu-Ray.

Please, please, PLEASE don't package it with the sequel. Unlike Fox and the Hound and Pocahontas, this is one film I actually really want to own. I love the "2 movie collections" for Fantasia and The Rescuers, but those are Disney feature animation canon, the DTV sequels are not, and I want NOTHING to do with those!

"I messaged Don Hahn (producer of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Atlantis: the Lost Empire) earlier on Facebook, first explaining how huge a fan I was of it and then asking if there was any chance of an upcoming release of Hunchback on blu-ray. He responded!

"[It's] funny you should write me about this because i just saw the Bluray box cover art yesterday for Hunchback. I don't know the exact street date, but yes, [it'll] be out soon. Appreciate the kind words very much. Don."

He said Atlantis should be coming out at the same time. I asked if the sequels would be included, but he hasn't answered me back on that yet."

That makes me insanely excited. I really hope the cover art is classy, but if this ends up being a 2-movie collection with the atrocious sequel, then it's already doomed as they'll be referencing characters from that, I'm sure. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that this will be directly transfered from the original CAPS files.

I wonder what the delay is with Atlantis since that was due this year. Maybe they're presenting the excellent documentary in HD? It seemed to be shot in it.

Sweet! I'm a fan of Hunchback if not only just for the soundtrack! (Aside from that terrible "A Guy Like You" song), I can't wait to see and hear "Heaven's Light/Hell Fire" in HD!

I'm a big fan of Atlantis, I know a lot of people don't like it and I can understand why, it's dark and a definite departure from the Disney films before it, but I think that's why I liked it and it's got some really funny parts!

I've been hoping this would get the blu-ray treatment at some point. It won't be a diamond edition, but hopefully it still receives a nice transfer.

Superb! I would suspect that Brother Bear may come out around the same time as it was originally announced w/ Atlantis. Perhaps even some of the other classics that have been announced in other countries for similar release timeframes are coming as well. I wish these would come out before the new year, though, as getting them for Christmas would help my budget; in any case I can't wait for them to come to blu!

I could care less about if the sequel is bundled with it... but what about bonus features?

The CAV LaserDisc release was packed with extras! I'm lucky to own a copy (and a working player) and was looking through some of the stuff on that disc just last week. It was really great! Sadly nearly none of it made it onto the Gold Collection DVD (not a big surprise at all, but at least the LD's audio commentary track made it onto the DVD).

The LaserDisc set had over 85 minutes of extras, including a 'Making of' documentary, plenty of other short features (including an interesting one about the CGI crowds), and tons, and tons of still galleries. I'd love to see some of that artwork in HD! Even if the rest of the features are in SD, I just hope they're ported. For more info on the extras read the back cover of the LD jacket here on my blog

Not all of us are so lucky (or geeky enough) to have an old LD player and access to these awesome deluxe sets from the 90's . Which were usually packed with bonus features that (sadly) almost never see the light of day ever again.

Although I'll grant that Hercules: the Series did help put its movie into context, and I'm with those who theorize Chip & Dale really did work for the Rescuers.)

This conversation is reminding me how none of my Disney TV-on-DVD shows have been given complete releases yet. Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Rescue Rangers...all sitting there waiting for some new volumes.

The one that hurts the most is Gummi Bears. I enjoyed rewatching that the most of all of those, and it was starting to get darn good at the end of Volume 1.

Those five are the classics for me...
Bonkers -- liked it ok
Aladdin/Mermaid -- didn't really care or give them much of a chance at the time
Hercules -- never saw it
Goof Troop -- liked it then but don't think I would now

Wuzzles -- want to see it on DVD!

Well, I might by a DVD of the Hercules series for the William Shatner episode to put in my William Shatner DVD collection. Yes. I have that. It's three shelves worth now.

I've honestly never seen that much of a collection to one person (I'm Mickey Mouse though) That's unique!
